I think it's probably possible. Everyone thought the 4-minute mile was an impossible barrier back in the day, and now at least a dozen collegiate athletes go sub-4 every year. I think there is definitely a hard limit on human physical performance, but it has not been reached in any running event.

I think its very possible. We just need to invent a 26 mile down hill course and that record would be broke.
