Suggested Sights to See in New Mexico?

I am thinking of taking a motor trip from Illinois to the State of New Mexico. Of course, along the way, I would like to as much as possible along the route that I will be taking.

I plan on leaving on the or about the 15th of May and hopefully will be back at home no later than May 29th or 30th.

I would like to hear from others who have made this drive. What did you see that would be of interest to a tourist along the route? What would you recommend seeing as I go along my merry way?

Any suggestions and/or comments that you may have would be most appreciated.

    If you're lucky you might be able to get a tour of the trinity Test site, where they blew up the first nuclear bomb, they only open it to the public a few times per year

    Taos (Indian) Pueblo, near Taos New Mexico

    Santa Fe, New Mexico Indian market held each month, any festival would be great

    the little 10,000 ft "mountain" in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

    Carlsbad caverns in SE New Mexico.
