CHRISTIANS: Do you consider Mormons Christians?

I know mormons believe in a Jesus who died on the cross but they also believe they will be gods one day, and that the father wasn't always GOD but he was a human who got to become God. The book of mormon contradicts with the bible on a lot of important things of being a christian..

If Christians accept the bible alone and they don't accept the LDS teachings and they don't accept Joseph Smith as a prophet but Mormons do accept Joseph Smith as a prophet who brought new teachings wouldn't that make them a different religion?

Like muslims believe muhammad came and restored the gospel and although the quran accepts Jesus as the "messiah" they reject the key points of christianity. That reminds me of Mormons.

My teacher told me when islam first started to spread people thought it was a cult of Christianity, people still think Mormons are a cult of Christianity...

Most Christian denominations have MINOR diffrences but they all believe they will go to heaven, most Christians think Mormons will go to hell for being a mormon.

How could they be Christian?

What do you think?

    CHRISTians follow CHRIST.

Mormons follow a proven psychotic man

named Joseph Smith. It says very clearly not to add books to the word of God in the last book calked revelations.

Research Joseph Smith if you truly want your answer.

People that love God research what God wants of them, so you do the math.

I am apart of the LDS Church and most of what you guys are saying IS NOT TRUE! We do not worship Joseph smith or other prophets who have followed him. We believe he is a mouthpiece for god. We do not believe he is as high as god and he in no way has the same power has god (Amos 3:7). We do not believe Joseph smith wrote the book of mormon. We believe he translate it. (2 Timothy 3: 16-17) We believe god Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost (or holy spirt) to be 3 separate personages (acts 7:55-56). We believe in 3 separate degrees of glory (1 Corinthians 15: 40-42) we believe there was an apostasy (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3) we believe there was a restoration (revelation 14: 6-7) we believe to be save you must do good works believe in Christ and be baptized. (James 2:17-18) we do not believe those who are not mormon are going to hell. Joseph smith had an elementary writing level, yet scholars have shown there is 23 writing styles in the Book of Mormon. How could he make up the Book of Mormon?

First century Christians were warned by the apostle Paul that if anyone - even an angel from heaven - came preaching a gospel different to the one they had received from the apostles, that it was a false gospel. They were not to be swayed by it. Guess what? The LDS religion is based upon an angel coming with a message different to the one in the Bible.

Of course, the Mormons will protest that it's the same gospel, just expanded for these "latter days". But that is the danger of their religion! It is a Restorationism religion - claiming that the Church Jesus established became so corrupt, so quickly, that it failed Big Time. (Despite Jesus promising that the very gates of Hades would never overcome his Church!) So Jesus had to set up a restored "latter day" church - done in the early 1800s, they claim, via Joseph Smith and the gold tablets received from the angel Moroni. They claim that this restored the priesthood to them alone - only they had authority from God. No other priesthood is valid, they say. They teach that only good Mormons can aspire to the highest level of the Kingdom; that Jesus' death only secured a resurrection for everybody - not salvation from sins! They believe there are some sins so serious, only the sinner's own blood being shed can atone. And so I could go on and on and on.

The differences are so immense, nobody who compares Mormonism with orthodox Christianity could say they were from the same stable. They are very similar to Muslims in saying the Bible became corrupted, so extra writings later on were needed. Likewise, both groups place great emphasis on 'earning' God's approval. The differences between Mormons and orthodox Christianity are enormous.

But to correct one of your latter statements: "most Christians think Mormons will go to hell for being a mormon" - No. Nobody goes to hell for what they believe. People will end up in hell for being sinners who rejected the only means of being pardoned before God - faith in what Jesus did to legally justify us before God - not faith in what we try to do to gain justification! We really need to pray for Mormons, and to reach out to them, in love, with the gospel of salvation in Christ alone.

They teach ANOTHER JESUS and ANOTHER GOSPEL so how could I consider them biblical christians?

Did you know they also believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers, that God has sex in heaven and that these are his "spirit babies" that are born as Mormons here on earth. Gross!

That's not the Jesus I know as Lord and Savior nor the gospel of Christ.

Galatians 1:6-8, "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would PERVERT the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed."

2 Corinthians 11:2-4, "For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth ANOTHER Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive ANOTHER spirit, which ye have not received, or ANOTHER gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."

You've reduced Christianity to some type of club where if you wear the right shoes and jacket you're good - while ignoring the only part of the definition of Christianity that matters - belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savoir.

Without question Mormons believe in Christ as their Savior - your straw-man argument comparing Mormonism with Islam on the topic of Christ's divinity where there is no comparison is a logical failure. And your blind acceptance of exaggerated beliefs that are inaccurate about my religion is sort of sad as well.

The last words recorded by John in his gospel prior to Christs arrest is the intercessory prayer in which Christ prays that we might be one with Him as He is one with the Father - so we believe that since Christ said it!

The first Christians didn't have a bible at all, so it's an odd stance to say that those who don't accept the sola scritura are not Christians because you omit the early Christian martyrs.

The last point to bring up is the belief that most Christians think Mormons will go to hell; I'm happy to say that the sentiment isn't returned - judgement is for Christ alone, who are you to say who will be damned or saved based on party affiliation pathetically hoping for punishment for those who think a bit differently than you do. I'll be judged by my God who knows and loves me, and no man knows my relationship with Christ other than me and Christ.

The sad point missed in this question is that to be a Christian one would assume that a person must be Christ-like; deciding that 14 million people will go to hell because you don't understand their beliefs is just plain sad.

    @Sasi:

"First century Christians were warned by the apostle Paul that if anyone - even an angel from heaven - came preaching a gospel different to the one they had received from the apostles, that it was a false gospel. They were not to be swayed by it. Guess what? The LDS religion is based upon an angel coming with a message different to the one in the Bible."

If you only read Galatians 1:8-9 it says that, however Paul continues and clarifies what he's referring to in versus 11-12 certifying that the gospel he is referring to is not taught by men but by revelation; thus those verses do far more to support our point of view than to oppose it. That false gospel Paul refers to is identified by Paul as one that rejects revelation and rests on the wisdom of men. I always like to read a few verses before and after the targeted verse to get the context, it's a wise thing to do.

Galatians 1:11-12 - But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Let's be logical about this - do you really think that Paul, converted from a vision or revelation, is your spokesperson against all visions? That would discredit him as well.

Using Galatians 1 as an argument against the LDS church isn't effective at all.

No. They added a book to the bible. (God told us not to do that.) They think Jesus came down to America after going up from Israel. (yeah right.) Jesus is not supposed to come to earth again until Revelation and after the antichrist rules the earth.

All followers of Jesus Christ use the Bible as their reference and guide. It doesn't matter what any group of people think of another group of people. And nobody knows where ANYBODY is going except God alone. It is HIS decision.

I'm Jewish, and I consider them the same. All Christians, Catholics, Mormons, JW, etc, look the same, they believe in and follow Jesus- thats all I see to it. Christians become Jews once they don't get along with eachother, and we see how this went out with 2000 years of exile under them. Its kinda reversing.

It fallows the same curb, indoctrination from childhood, self fulfillment prophecies, religious justification for sexual deviance. Everything a weak mind needs to except a religion without question, so yes. Even though it is new and ridiculous, I see them as Christians.

no they believe in their prophet Joseph Smith, who is no prophet, as we christians believe in Christ as our Lord and saviour. as in answer to ? in Christ there is no east or west, or Jew or greek but we are all conformed into the image of Christ, who helps us become children of the Lord G-d of Israel.
