Are there any superstions to not cutting the cake at a wedding reception?

    There is a very old superstition that says if the bride does not cut the cake first then she risks being childless. This however, is complete rubbish, as I never cut the cake at my reception and I have two lovely children.

    There are other superstitions / traditions around the cutting of the cake symbolising the end of the wedding (so any bored or tired guests can leave at that point) and about cutting and eating of the cake by the bride and groom symbolising their first meal together as a couple.

    For cutting only, I don't think so. It's actually more of a tradition that dated back during the roman empire with the Bride and Groom cutting the cake to symbolize working together.
