If you take peanut butter in your carry on luggage, it is considered a "liquid or gel" and must meet the same requirements. Look for "Jif To Go" packets.
If you put a jar of peanut butter in your checked luggage, your suitcase WILL be searched. Unfortunately, peanut butter has the same consistency as a putty bomb. I get searched every time.
I have taken my kiddos many times. Depending on how young your kids are, and how picky of an eater they are, I think it is a good idea to bring along some of their favorites. When you get to your resort, familiar foods will look and taste different than what you and your kids are used to. A hot dog will not look like the Oscar Mayer you get at the grocery store, chicken nuggets will not look or taste like Tyson's. The very first time I took my youngest, she ate nothing but ice cream and virgin strawberry daiquiris for a week! Now, I take a jar of peanut butter (knowing that I will get one of those little notes from the STA!), ram en noodles, raviolis, chicken noodle soup, a box of favorite cereal, etc.
If you have a night flight, maybe skip nap time that day so they will be extra tired and will sleep the whole time. You can carry your child in your arms or push them in a stroller, but they must walk through the security screener on their own. So if he/she is asleep when you get to the airport, you will have to wake him up to go through security. Riding on the plane is similar to a long car ride, most kids will be lulled to sleep.
If your kids will be awake during the flight, then I definitely recommend a portable dvd player with headphones. You can get one at walmart.com for around $70. It will also come in handy in the evenings back in your hotel room when your kids don't want to watch Dora in espanol. Or when you and hubby want to enjoy your dinner together, kids will be busy watching a movie and you can actually have a conversation with each other.
Remember to take lots of sunscreen for them. I like the new spray on cans, especially for re-applying after they have been swimming. I like to buy a cheap set of sand castle buckets and shovels at the dollar store. Play with it while you are there, then give it to another family when you leave. I also bring several beach balls and swim rings.
I hope you have a great trip!

Best to find one in a plastic jar.Yes you can bring a new, unopened jar of peanut butter in your checked bag. Hopefully, they will be sleepy at nite.

you might want to ask your pediatrician if it would be O.K, to give them a sleeping pill before your flight. A 3mg Metiformina would probably make your trip more enjoyable. Just a suggestion .
