Why do birds bobble their heads when they walk?

I see pidgins, crows, chickens and a bunch of other birds, they always move their head back and forth when they walk.

Other birds like sparrows, don't really walk but hop.

How come some birds bobble their heads when they walk ?

It is for a balance just like you swing your arms when you walk.

The head movement helps them to keep their balance when walking. Otherwise, they would just fall flat on their beaks.
