What is a good book to prepare someone for horse ownership?

I have been riding horses seriously for over ten years (I am 21), and I am finally going to get a horse of my own. My father has decided to buy the horse and pay for board and other expenses, so I would like to get him a book that he can flip through to get an idea on what it means to own a horse. I want something that covers all the bases, is easy to follow but not child level, and something not too thick would be ideal. I don't want to intimidate him out of getting me a horse after all! In case you are curious or if it makes a difference to your suggestions, I am buying an Icelandic - probably a little five gaited mare named Hera.

Update:

Snezzy, if I kept my books (horse or otherwise) on shelves instead of on my kindle, I would have to have several rooms to keep them in! Unfortunately, my dad is not a kindle person, so I am trying to get an idea for what printed books might be best.

Complete Book of Horses and Riding by Judith Drapper, Debby Sly, and Sarah Muir

It is the best only I own, I mostly use it to give me ideas on how to improve on riding but the other sections on fedding and keeping are very informative.

How to Be Your Own Veterinarian (Sometimes) by Ruth B. James, DVM

Horsekeeping on a Small Acreage by Cherry Hill

If you look up those at the usual on-line bookshops you will find dozens more, besides.

You already should have enough horse books that you find yourself thinking of where in your house you can put some extra bookshelves.

Honestly, your book will be your 4 legged new friend. :) I use this web site for help with different issues I am dealing with on a day to day basis. Good luck and remember - dont ever look at it to seriously. Have fun with horse ownership.

honestly there isn't a good book to read, you can go to boarders or barnes and nobles (horses for dummies is a really good book, they put things in lay-mans terms.) but horse ownership really needs to be a hands on learning thing. its a real learning experience, i have owned my horse for about 2 years and i am still learning stuff every day! hope this helps ♥
