Cat personality preference?

I realize that cats each have their own personality, but overall, which breed is the most loving and affectionate to the owner? Does the cat's gender matter?

I've never had a pure bred cat, only mixed ones. So from the breed perspective, I'd answer Domestic Shorthair AND Domestic Longhair. My cats were all very loving and affectionate. However, 3 stand at the top of my list. First: Jasmin. She was a feral kitten when given to my brother. She was a Dom. Longhair who resembled a Maine Coon. She was VICIOUS at first. Patience and love tamed her. She became known as "Lady Cat". You could cradle her in your arms like a baby...VERY trusting & sweet. Second: Houdini. She was a "scaredy-cat" at first, and vanished when she heard loud noises or when strangers were over. A lovely white Dom. Shorthair. (Had a grey streak on her head which disappeared before age 1. That's often the case with white cats--the grey mark can be one sign they aren't deaf.) She trusted me completely, and she loved my dog too. Houdini got pregnant before I was able to get her spayed. :( She climbed into bed with me one night and curled up behind my knees. Very soon, there was a warm wet feeling. I was like...whaaaat?! Her water had broken, and she wanted to be with the one person she completely trusted and felt at ease with. So I guess I should feel honored that she chose me for her birthing coach. :) Third: Chen. He's the cat I have now--a Dom. Longhair that I think has some Norwegian Forest Cat in his genes cuz he's got a mane, bib, and britches. His coat won't quit, especially during the colder months. I got him just shy of his first birthday. He was a rescue cat and had been declawed (which I wouldn't suggest doing to a cat!). Fortunately, he's OK from the declawing...but his teeth are his only weapon and he knows it. He was also neutered (which I DO strongly recommend). I wasn't sure about getting anything other than a kitten, but he's changed my mind completely on that subject. He's a wonderful cat. Chen definitely owns us...and it's been a pleasure having him for almost a year. He's a King AND a Joker AND the 4 Aces all in one. ;) Just a terrific friend. So, I don't think gender matters, but spaying/neutering by 6 months old DOES matter! It prevents a cat from developing some distressful behavior. And a neutered male stays prettier...his face doesn't enlarge like an intact male's face will often do. The cat-and the owner-will be happier and healthier. I don't think breed matters either. But I'm sure others will disagree strongly...because pure-bred cat lovers are surely going to defend their pets! And that's fine. I'm only going by my own experiences with many, many cats. They ALL deserve love, security, indoor homes, and fresh food and water. Give them what they need, and let the fun begin. You'll have a wonderful friend for life.

Breed doesn't matter. It depends on how YOU love your cat.
