When people talk about "water weight," they are speaking of the excess water your body is carrying. Everyone carries several pounds of water, but if you carry more than normal or needed that's the water weight people are talking about regarding fitness.
Exercise and proper nutrition will help reduce your water weight. Also, if you want to reduce your water weight, cut way back on the sodium - sodium helps retain water in your body.
While you are not ACTUALLY losing fat, if you lose your extra water weight, it will APPEAR that you lost a weight. This can sometimes be a drastic change that people notice.

When people talk about water weight they are talking about the initial weight you lose when you first start. If you lose weight very quickly you are simply dehydrating your body. If it takes a longer time you are most likely losing fat. Pills that claim to make you lose weight are NEVER I repeat NEVER safe. They speed up your heart among other things and harm your body in many different ways. If you want to lose weight eat less bad, processed stuff and eat more good, fresh, whole stuff.
