What's up with my stomach?

For the past 5 months I've been in and out of hospitals. I have really bad nausea and I am limited to what I can eat. My doctors thought it was GERD at first but everything they gave me never helped the nausea. If anything, the omeprazole, ranitidine, protonix made me feel worse (constipated & it distended my stomach to an extreme). I can't drink soda, eat fatty foods or chocolate because it messes with my stomach very bad. Sometimes it gets so bad that even crackers or soup don't settle well in my stomach. On random occasions for no reason, I would get diarrhea followed by a couple of days of constipation. Every time I go back and tell my doctor she gives me anti nausea meds and to wait it out with the omeprazole. I'm tired of feeling nauseated & bloated all the time. They've done blood work and cat scans and they say everything is fine. But I can't stress enough how much I don't.

I've gotten various allergy blood tests done (gluten, lactose, etc) & I've been tested for Celiac's, stomach ulcers, and various colon problems but everything comes back negative.

I've been to a gastroenterologist but they can't find any problems either.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this?

Update:

My doctor did rule out IBS because of my stomachs reaction to greasy/fried foods. But I'll bring it up again to her.

Okay, first off: have they ever had you try any elimination diets? The tests for celiac disease and lactose intolerance are not perfect - there are false negatives. Something like a 20% false negative rate for celiac disease, actually. I can't recall what the one for the breath test for lactose is.

Because of this, experts in celiac disease always recommend that you try the gluten free diet - very strict, even avoiding cross-contamination - if your tests come back negative and they don't know what's wrong. There is also such a thing as non-celiac gluten intolerance which there IS no test for, just the diet change to see if symptoms resolve. Allergists can help with changing diets, sometimes, and often times, you may find that you have low level allergies with cause internal inflammation, but may have a better chance spotting with an elimination diet.

Second - have they tests your gall bladder? That typically is involved if there is an issue with digesting fats.

A few other things they might have tested you for: SIBO, parasites, other auto-immune disorders

I have heard of many people with stomach issues who have trouble with fatty foods, soda, and chocolate. Coffee is usually another one that's a problem. Many times, it has turned out to be an intolerance of some kind, which there are literally no tests for the majority of the time. Just the diet change and a food journal to keep track of what you eat and how it feels.

One intolerance that might be worth looking at would be annatto - it's a natural food dye that causes all sorts of gut trouble, and has even been recognized as an issue in people who have stomach problems, but it's rarely explored in patients.

Re: IBS - seriously, it's a, well, like a non-diagnosis. It's the 'we don't know what you have so we'll call it this' diagnosis. If you had non-stop coughing, the lung version of IBS would be 'lungs that are prone to coughing.' It doesn't help you find a cure, get better, know the cause of the problem, nothing. It just says 'you have bowels that get irritated easily, good luck to you.' So even if you get that diagnosis, it's pretty much useless to you.

well..... it could be a condition called IBS (irratiable bowl syndrom) basically no one knows for sure what causes ibs. Ibs you will useually alternate between having diarrhea and being constipated. you could be constipated on day.... and have diarrhea the next. also, IBS is extremly painful. It is because of muscle cramps (spasms) in the stomach intestine and colon. also you can get gas pain that are very shap/feel bloated Everyone has different food that can make their ibs act up, or get worse. There is no test for ibs, and doctors useually diagnoise it as a last resort. I have ibs but i am on a medication dicylomine that works super well. (also ibs can act up and get much worse when you are nervous and under stress) there are many different ibs medications but not all medications work for some people. if you have ibs you will have to keep working until you find the medication right for you. another way to help ibs is to identify which foods give you problems and try to avoid them or eat them less often.hope you feel better :P
