Can washing my car too often ruin it?

I wash my car like 2 times a week. Just with water. No soap. But I was told if I keep washing it so often rust may develop, etc, and ruin the body of my car. I am not sure if this is true. What is your answer?

Infact regular washing will help sustain it for longer. All the air pollutants which rusts and decays body slowly are washed off more frequently. Occasional waxing will further prevent moisture to enter inside body and help improve the life and shine of car body.

Washing the car with just water shouldn't rust it. Humidity, rain fall, UV rays and other outdoor elements test the durability of your car on a daily basis. However, it seems like a lot of upkeep to have your car looking new.

I would suggest that you invest in a car cover- the company I work for sells them for a really fair price. This way, you only have to wash your car once every month or so. The car cover protects it from harmful outdoor elements that can cause damage. You just cover it up everyday (about 30 seconds to do) and your weekly car washes are no longer necessary.

No is the basic answer. I define 'wash' as using a rag or spounge with water to wipe your car to remove dirt. Rinsing your car is just spraying your car from the garden hose with no wiping. With that in mind, do not not wash you car with just water, it does not lift the dirt off the paint and you'll end up scraching your car. Use a car wash detergent. DO NOT use dish soap or floor cleaner, etc. The chemicals in those are too harsh for cars.

Dry your car thoroughly after you wash it. The car will last a long time and look good if you do it right.

No it's not true. Just think about all the rain that falls on cars! Maybe once a week would be okay though. I've had my car two years and haven't washed it once. It looks absolutely fine. Use your time more productively, that's my advice.

The secret is to chamois it down. I always used warm soapy water and hosed it down very well.

Always use a jet nozzle under the wheel arches. Your enemies are mud and slush up under their, and if they use salt on the streets for snow and ice then you have a real invitation for rust, as that is a killer.

Regularly give it a good polish with a quality car grooming product.

If it is a good car and for a few extra bucks get a cut and polish and a complete grooming in and out.

washing it won't do anything. two times a week is quiet a bit. the only time i wash it that much is when the roads are salted for snow and it draws moisture in and holds it there and it will corrode over time. thats when you should wash it often.
