Is Hell a reality according to the Bible or not?

In Mark 9:43-48 it mentions hellfire as punishment for nonbelievers, but in Romans 6:23 it says that nonbelievers simply die, in a sense that they just stop existing. Which is it, or is this just another contradiction?

I propose yet a fourth option:

The whole concept is made-up bullshit.

They are both correct. Believers and nonbelievers alike die and go to the grave. There is no immortal soul. The Bible tells us we are a soul. The Bible tells of 2 resurrections. One to eternal life and one to eternal death or hellfire. No one is in either place until Jesus comes back to judge the living and the dead - the Bible is CLEAR on this. Some believe it is a state of mind. Like they say a fools paradise is a wise mans hell. The people who lived their lives serving God will be in eternal paradise praising him forever an ever while the non believers and ones that love evil but did not seek forgiveness will experience a state of mind that is just horrible to even think about. This is what some suggest and I think is a good assumption. Although there are many other opinions of course. I hope this helped and I was not attempting to even try to judge "who makes the cut" or not.

    God bless

Jesus refers to it as eternal fire

    Matthew 25:41

    “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘ Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;

Romans 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death. The wages of sin is not just physical death, but eternal death (hell). Paul wrote Romans and he is clear in other places that hell is a place of eternal fire. It's also referred to as "the second death" in Revelation.

    Revelation 20:14

Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.

    Revelation 21:8

But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

No they are not contradictions. Romans 6:23 is saying that we all have sinned, and that because of this sin, our flesh is corrupted and we have to die. And for the believers there is eternal life with Christ, and the unbelievers in hell. Christianity is like the book Pilgrim's Progress. Christ died for our sins and if we accept Him and follow Him, repent and make a total complete change in our life, He will forgive us those sins. That is being called born again, because His spirit then comes and lives inside of you when His blood is spiritually covering your corrupted flesh/soul/spirit. Then as you go forward in your walk in Christ, you must make Him the Lord and master of your entire being and obey Him, being willing to do what He needs you to do....like if next week He says stop smoking, then in a month He says stop watching R rated movies....it is a journey of cleansing through time that the Father transforms you more like His son. And then He gives you gifts of say teaching, prophecy, dreams, that will allow you to gave Heavenly rewards. Now if you decide to sin and go back to your old lifestyle before you were saved after receiving this gift of salvation and you do not repent, then if you died you would go to hell because there remains no more sacrifice for your sins. It is like getting a divorce.

it's hard to figure the bible out because there are many contradictons, what i understand hell is a mental torment, for all eternity,it says in the bible at the end of the world jesus will raise the dead, what i gather from this is when we die, we sleep and then get judged, but some say we get immediatly judged.hell is not just for non believers, but also commiting a mortal sin, murder adultry, and a few others,do i believe this yes i do.WHAT is confusing to me some people become ghost, they were the ones who will not accept death and have a desire to still take care of buisness on earth! as far as the devil is concerned there are house in the united states that are possesed by the devil, and some people have seen the devil in human form,he can take on any form and is very deceptive,do not use ouiji boards,or tarrot cards, you are calling the devil without knowing it,and once he comes he can drive you crazy,to commit murder, also he can take your soul by being week, not praying or believing in god, also the devil comes to us under the influence of drugs or alcohol, that's also when we are at our weakest, and that's why many murders are commited,i hoped i helped you with your question!

In Mark the word translated hell is "Gehenna" or "Gehenna of fire". This was originally the valley of Hinnom, south of Jerusalem. It is where they disposed of the garbage. It is also Purgatory for Jews.

In revelation the lake of fire is the Dead Sea, every thing that end up there is destroyed.

Probably just another contradiction, the bible is full of those.

  • The only hell that exists is earth.

No. Hell is death, nothing more. There is no fiery torment for all eternity.
