It really depends on what freedom means in your head. In some ways yes, we have freedom, the freedom to own a gun, the freedom to own land. But in some very prominent ways, out freedom is lost through peer pressure. Freedoms of speech is lost through the pressure of what society will think of what you say, freedom of press is lost because the person who you may be writing about can sue. People cant say anything anymore because they are afraid of the loss of interconnection to their society, which they may be discriminated against for their certain view

Freedom?
If there are 4 people living in a square mile, they can do pretty much what they want. LA CA has around 6999 people per square mile, NYC - 5319. You need LOTS of restrictions so that things remain peaceful. That starts to restrict 'freedom'.
Democracy is rule by the people. The people have decided that they are happier with less freedom and more security. (And given the fact that my neighbor didn't keep his three aggressive dogs confined in his yard until the police and Animal Control showed up, I like the SECURITY). But so many more Americans are living off the security of the Federal government, that opponents feel that the American 'spirit' is going in the wrong direction.

Radio Free America Announcer: It's 11:59 on Radio Free America; this is Uncle Sam, with music, and the truth until dawn. Right now I've got a few words for some of our brothers and sisters in the occupied zone: "the chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall", "john has a long mustache, john has a long mustache". It's twelve o'clock, American, another day closer to victory. And for all of you out there, on, or behind the line, this is your song.

Freedom and democracy is in the hands of the majority not the minority. We lost freedom and democracy because we allow ourselves to be blinded by rhetoric and stupidity. Government cannot govern unless we the vast majority of voters elect them into office.
If we truly want to maintain freedom and democracy we have ensure that we stand up for our beliefs, elect governments that we trust who have the people's interest at heart and hold them to the manifesto that they present before an election.
Millions of lives have been lost in order to ensure our freedom and democracy and I truly believe those individuals are turning in their grave watching the way that we have allowed our democratic freedom to be whittling away.
