Who is better: Pele or Diego Maradona?
Take your pick:
Edson Arantes do Nascimento (aka Pele), the Brazilian striker
OR
Diego Armando Maradona, Argentinean attacking midfielder
I personally believe Maradona is the best of all time. Although one man can change all of that with some international success. His name: Lionel Andres Messi.
It's asking for who was the best PLAYER, not who is more likely to win a Nobel Peace Prize. And to be fair, most of Pele's goals were in the weak Brazilian leagues, with some coming from his time @ New York Cosmos. Plus, he doesn't really have 3 World Cups. He was often substituted in the 1958 World Cup, benefiting off the incredible all around play from Brazil (Nilton Santos, Garrincha, Didi, and Vava). Also, he was injured for nearly the entire tournament in 1962 while Garrincha led Brazil to the World Cup without him. In 1966, Pele struggled, crying "Nâo mais!" because he couldn't handle it. In 1970 he was a part of probably the greatest international team of all time, consisting of Carlos Alberto, Jairzinho, Tostão, Gérson, and Rivelino to accompany himself.
Maradona on the other hand did it all by himself. I can name 2 players from that Argentina WC team other than Maradona himself, and that was Valdano and Burrachaga, hardly anywhere near the quality of
*Pele's teammates. It was all him in 1986, with the Goal of the Century, and Maradona nearly pulled it off a 2nd straight time in 1990.

the world of football is a funny place:
In the 50's and 60's Pele dominated ,then came the 70's and 80's where no one could be better than Maradona and now it's messi.Players keep improving as does the sport. The competition, the science and everything behind football is making the sport advance quicker.I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 30 or 40 years all the records are broken. You never know, probably the next pele will be born in the next 10 or 15 years and then he comes out and he shut everyone down.

Have you forgotten that the "Goal of the Century" was a HAND BALL?
Pele never *cheated* like that. He's the man.

I don't think it was fair of fiona to call Maradona a fat cheating drug addicted little prick. She missed out lying, overrated, ignorant, racist and arrogant.
