What possesses some people to report an answer?
I don't get it and I am hoping the person who reported my answer for violation of community guidelines does me a favor and enlightens me. The question was something like "Can I get a hug? I feel sad or like crying." My answer was "Awww, .... sure. Don't cry. It will be OK" I answered it in all sincerity knowing, of course, that it's not possible to give an actual hug so I was merely trying to comfort.
Now in all likelihood this person was joking and many of the responders were making comments both good and bad. I went back to search for the question but couldn't find it. It just really pisses me off when there is no logical reason to be reported. Furthermore, trying to appeal it is pointless because the appeal committee lacks any semblance of logic and common sense, or anything more than a rudimentary knowledge of English and all the nuances contained therein.
So what's the answer? What kind of person reports something so innocuous? And Why?.... Personal vendetta? Jealousy? Misunderstanding?.....
Please, clue me in on the secret. Thank you.
@name unavailable.... I get that people troll but why take someone down that is only trying to help or be kind? Why not take down someone rude or obnoxious?

@ Dexter... you are so right! Some of the things I have read on here - racist, bigoted, hateful, comments are truly what should be banned and reported. NOT violation of the Q & A format. REALLY?
@ lysa... Wow, I thought I had it bad! Yeah, YA needs to get it together and do a better job. Maybe the reporter should have to give their own points if the person is not found in violation..... but that just takes us back to that issue ... ugh!

I'm sorry for anyone who is experiencing this (including myself). There is nothing we can do until Yahoo answers start to plan a way to improve their 'reporting'. If they actually looked at the questions and answers that do need to be reported, this site would be a much funner place. And I wouldn't feel the burning rage, I do when my honest answers get reported.

I think that people just overall get annoyed with Top Contributors. Ever since I have been a Top Contributor I have always been nice, and gave detailed answers but I get reported, and I get death threats in my e-mails for no apparent reason. People seem to think that Top Contributors feel as if they know it all, they are better than everyone else and that we're disrespectful. Maybe that person that reported you thought as if they were to report you you would get suspended and lose your Top Contributor badge. Someone asked on the Polls & Surveys category saying, "Should I eat my couch?" and I said "Good Lord. What world do I live in?" and I got reported which wasn't under the Community Guidelines.
