From observation of the vedio only I can see the Okinawan makiwara requires more follow through by the practitioner. Adding the weight on a string to react will help with reflexes. I see a danger in using this method alone to much as it can cause the student to always expect the target to react the same way and build a bad habit of not looking and than acting totally reflexive. I hav been around long enough to know people are not gadgets and often react unpredictably. Other wise the methods seem similar. Nether of these replaces a life workout partner who Can move randomly, unpredictably. Of course they are still good tools in the school.

I think my makiwara at home will shortly be modified. Thanks
