Why do obese people get more praise?
when they lose weight as opposed to just an average over weight person? I've noticed this at my gym and in my personal life. For example about a year ago I weighed 169 at 5`5 so I was about 30 pounds over weight. I got motivated and busted my a$$ and ate healthy and lost 30Lbs. in about 4 months. My parents and friends and my partner were proud of me but they said oh well you looked good before and now you just look lean and that was the end of it. Now I see this morbidly obese woman that loses 10 pounds or so and she gets her picture on a billboard and gets praise from everyone and their mother even though she is still obese. What's the difference? Maybe I'm just jealous ha ha but has anyone else noticed this?

well, technically speaking obese people can actually loose excess weight much more easily (providing they alter their diet and exercise correctly) I think the problem is that when an obese person looses a little weight they show it far more than someone who is slightly overweight so it looks as if they are 'doing more' about it when in fact this isn't the case. It's more difficult for people of a lower weight to trim those extra pounds - the difference before and after just isn't as dramatic as with obese people so people judge by the differences they see. I also think at the moment there is so much attention drawn to the obesity 'epidemic' that people focus more on the weight loss of the obese and not the slightly overweight people who maybe want to shift a few pounds. You should be proud, 30lbs is an impressive weight loss! focus on your own achievements and being proud of what you do and stuff what everyone else thinks. :)

Maybe it's harder for obese people to lose weight. I would imagine so, because think of being just a little overweight and working hard and getting fit, then thinking of having tons and tons of pounds while trying to exercise. Can you imagine running as an obese person? Good job though for losing those 30 lbs!

It could be because they constantly need that praise and encouragement. They probably have low self-esteem because of their weight and without being told they that are accomplishing something they might quit.
Congrats on the weight loss though :)

Well considering the fact that you're only 30 Ibs overweight as opposed to someone who is 100 Ibs overweight. They diserve to be praised more. Stop being jealous lol.

I haven't noticed this. Maybe it's because it's harder for them to work out? I don't know.
