Is a newborns birth size genetic?

I was a little over 11 pounds at birth (mom went all natural as well!) and my husband was a slightly under 11 pounds at birth. We were both between 23-24 inches in length.

Is delivery size genetic or is it based on the environment presented to the unborn child? Are we likely to have a larger baby since we both were?

Update:

Yes I would say we are tall. I'm 5'7" and he is 6'4".

There are several contributing factors to birth weight. genetics are partially responsible but environmental factors also contribute. It is not common for a baby to be 11lbs at birth. It sounds like either one of two things happened with you and your husband, 1.) You were both born after 40 weeks, babies born after 40 weeks tend to be larger than babies born before 40 weeks. 2.) Your mothers had gestational diabetes. Diabetes is caused by the placenta blocking the mother's insulin production. Meanwhile the baby in utero, produces too much insulin and grows very large. Also keep in mind that birth weight has nothing to do with how tall or how big the child will be as an adult. I have several adults in my family who were born per mature and are now well over 6 feet tall, including my first cousin and my half brother who were both born under 5lbs and are now 6',4" and 6',7" respectively. I was 8lbs,8oz at birth and 2 weeks early and I am only 5',5", the average height of a woman in the U.S. I am also very small framed. Proof that birth weight has no bearing on adult size. So, your child could end up being only 7 or 8lbs.

I don't thinl its genetic... I was 7something and he was 6something... we had two kids

    first one was 7.14

    second one was 9.14

    I don't know if hight will make a difference.. I'm 5'0 he's 6'2???

But best of luck to you!!! Walk a lot so birth can be easy!

yes, its usually genetic. See if they can do an ultrasound close to your due date to estimate babys size or see if your dr will induce early so you dont have an 11 pound baby

I recommend which you carry out a little questioning approximately this question. in case you have been pregnant and located that your toddler had DS how would that impact your being pregnant? How would you sense related to the toddler? would it impact the variety you took care of your self? would it impact your prefer to stay wholesome and bring the toddler to term? ok, you get the assumption. think of approximately it, use your mind's eye

Yes are you both tall? Taller people have taller children.
