How can I tell what body type I am?
So I've recently decided to get back into shape. I've started working out again. But I have a question, I've only recently learned of the different body types.
#1 Ectomorph
#2 Mesomorph
#3 Endomorph
Based on the little I know about the subject I've pretty much ruled out Endomorph. But I'm having a really hard time figuring out if I am an Meso or an Ecto or something in between. I don't have any pictures to post up here, but I can describe my overall build to you.
I'm 23 years old and I currently stand 6,0 and weigh 210lbs (down from 230 when I started working out 5 weeks ago) I've got relatively broad shoulders but not massive shoulders, my arm's and legs are pretty average, they are considerably more tone and a little larger since starting back to working out.
My optimum weight seems to be about 180lbs as that's what I weighed when I was in my late teens and I was quite muscular back then. At that point my arms/legs and overall build seemed to have more muscle mass and size overall than I do now, which is what I strive to get back to.
Anyway, if anyone has any guess based on the little bit of information I can provide you here, I'm open to hear it.
Also one more question, can a person go from one body type to another? For example a Meso becoming an Endo or Ecto becoming a Meso? How excatly does this work?
Thanks for any helpful anwsers everyone.

Okay, without the scientific endo/ecto/meso stuff, I can give you a rough guide to the more clothing-and-fashion-orientated body types. Bear in mind that everybody is a MIX of types, it is just the one that is most predominant in your figure.
- You are a petite figure if you have small figures (i.e. bust, hips). Excess weight tends to be spread evenly throughout.
- You are athletic if you are slim and don't have a big problem with weight piling on in certain places (i.e. stomach, bust, hips). Weight for these figures tends also to be spread evenly.
- You are an hourglass figure if the width of your bust (from one side to the other with the measuring thing in your armpits) is equal to or almost the same as that of your hips and you have a defined waist. Weight gain would go straight to the bust and hips.
- You are an apple shape if you are top-heavy, with a large bust and good legs which seem stick-thin in comparison. Weight gain would go to your upper half. (These figures often have broad shoulders.)
- You are a pear shape if your hips are much wider than the insides of your bust and weight gain goes to your hips and thighs.
From your description, you sound like an athletic figure type, but you might also be partially apple or hourglass, with your broad shoulders. Athletic figures are often very well proportioned and it is these, along with the Skinny and Petite types, that we see in magazines.
I hope I helped :)

Most people are a mix.. any it doesn't really matter too much. Mostly it's kind of like a starting place for where diet should be....I was born an ectomorph weighed 130 lbs 5'10" until I was 21 or 22... started lifting and gained 60 lbs in the first year... I look more like a mesoporph now.
