Sabbatarians how do you respond to Sunday keeping leaders claim that Colossians 2:16 abolishes the Sabbath?

You cannot combine the Ten Commandments with the Ceremonial Laws that included feast days and sabbath days(Plural). Sabbath day is not the same as sabbath days. Sabbath day is every seventh day. God ordain the day of rest at Creation(Genesis 2:1-3). He reiterated that day at Mount Sinai (Exodus 20:8-11) and continue to uphold the Sabbath under Christ and the Apostles long after the death of Christ.

Did you know that the "Sabbath days in Colossians fall under Ceremonial feast days not the weekly Sabbath day?

Tthis is concerning: Colossians 2:14-16. I would gladly take the time to explain this passage to you in the proper context. Many religious leaders take Paul's words in Colossians totally out of biblical context.

"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;....Let no man judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is Christ, it is important that when you read and study this detailed passage that you must understand that a certain law of ordinances was nailed to the cross. This was the ceremonial law of types and shadows that pointed forward to the death of Jesus and that no further meaning beyond the cross. This is why Paul said it was contrary to the Christian. The rent veil in the temple at the death of Christ(Matthew 27:51) indicated the end of that ordinance of animal sacrifices, and Ephesians 2:15 says that Jesus "abolished.....the law of commandments contained in ordinances."

, This is why Paul wrote in Colossians 2:16, 17 that we are no longer judged by the meat offerings, drink offerings, and sabbath days "which are a shadow of things to come." Take special note Shirley, that these are YEARLY and not the WEEKLY SABBATH of the TEN COMMANDMENTS. These shadowy sabbaths are described in Leviticus 23: 24-37. They fell on certain set days of the month----a different day of the week each year, yet they were called sabbaths. But please observe in verses 37 and 38 how they were clearly distinguished from the WEEKLY SABBATH: "These are the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice and drink offerings, every thing upon this day, beside the sabbaths of the Lord."

This clears up the truth of Colossians 2:16 when looking at all these verses in their proper context. The law of the yearly sabbaths, with all its meat and drink offerings, was nailed to the Cross, but the great TEN COMMANDMENT LAW with its weekly SABBATH was not affected by that "blotting out" of ordinances.

Biblical context and proper instruction(teaching) is vitally important. Many Churches take a single verse and read into it something that the Writer never intended and lead many sincere seekers into following false doctrines that are not established in the word of truth.

The Biblical Sabbath is cast aside and a false day of Worship is put in its place. Constantine insituted Sun-day worship. The pagans of old worship the Sun. They were Sun-worshippers. God's people kept the Sabbath day which was ordained by God at creation(Genesis 2:1-3). Grace does not nullify God Holy Law(Romans 3:31). Grace establishes the Law in the Heart of God's true believers. God's Holy standard cannot be change or abolished in any way. Jesus said "not one jot or one tittle shall in no way pass from the Law." Thou shall not Commit Adultery still applies as much today as it applied when God wrote these words with His own finger and gave the Law to Moses to give to His people. The same goes for the Sabbath and the remaining Ten Commandments.

We must uphold God's Holy Standard under Divine Grace.

I have a responsibility to share the truth of God's word with you even if it troubles you. The Blood will be on my hand if I say nothing at all and allow you to remain in Babylon(confusion). God has been calling you out of false worship but you continue to grieve the Holy Spirit by resisting all that you know to be truth.

Keep the Law under Divine Grace.

I tell them "Read the context" So what is the context?

Verse 4 I say this so that no one will delude you with persuasive argument.

Context: Someone was trying to to mislead the mind or judgment of; or deceive someone into believe something that is not true. We know that law is truth Psalm 119:142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth. So what was the delusion?

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.

Context Through the philosophy of men philosophy being the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and

language and I stress it was mens reasoning someone has established human traditions which is really what Yeshua took the Pharisee's to task for not keeping the sabbath as one ill informed person has stated. God's law is Gods. It is not a tradition of men. Since sabbath is part of Gods Law then it is also not a tradition of men which can be discarded. The tradition of men is Sunday keeping in violation of torah which says Deut 4:2 You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

Verses 13-14 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

Context; Easily provable historical fact The certificate of debt was the charges brought against you that put you on the cross in the first place. Just as Yeshua was charged with insurrections "King of the Jews" so our charges which our our sins are nailed to the cross with Yeshua thus canceling not the Law but the penalty we deserve for breaking the law. How can God's law be against us? Remember Paul said in Romans 7:12 So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. If the law is Holy righteous and good how can any of it be against us including the Sabbath.

Verse 16 Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day—

Context: This in no way abrogates the sabbath command rather it condemns people who are doing something other than Sabbath as suggested in verses 4 and 8 by establishing a different day then judging those who would continue to keep sabbath. How do we know this? Remember Paul also said in Romans 3:31 Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law. Part of that law like it or not is the sabbath. And again Duet 4 clearly states it is not the perogative of man to take anything away or add to the law. Also the following verses show the real problem. The establishment of man made rules over God's law. Just as the Pharisee's had done which Yeshua took them to task for.

Verses 20-23 If you have died with Christ [x]to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, 21 “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!” 22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)—in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? 23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.

Context Again man made laws and traditions. I could spell out a few for you having once been a baptist. Thou shalt not drink.. Not in scripture. Thou shalt not dance.. In fact in direct opposition to scripture which says in Psalms 150:4 Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Priests of God shall be celibate... Not in scripture in fact Paul's instructions to ministry would indicate the opposite should be true. Notice again these are not Gods laws but commandments and teachings of men. Paul calls them self-made religion and says its of no value. It is after all salvation by works or legalism.

The problem is that Sunday keepers don't care. There traditions cloud their judgment and it would upset the family to start keeping sabbaths and give up on pagan holy days. And yet Yeshua says in Matthew 10:37 “ He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

Originally the seventh day was just part of an esoteric doctrine. Later, religious people tried to adequate their social customs and religiousness to the esoteric doctrine, then you have rituals and ceremonies and so on. If a person does understand the esoteric doctrine and so in accordance to that creates a ritual or ceremony, then there is a risk that other people will only adopt the ritual, creating an endless discussion about this matters because the esoteric doctrine is not considered anymore.

Just the opposite. It basically says one should Keep honoring the Sabbath day.

How come those that believe that, have only been saying they can disobey that sin for a decade or two?

Back after God gave Moses ALL the Commandments, the first one to be seen disobeying was one collecting wood on the Sabbath! He was taken to God and the sentence was Death!

In the New Testament we are told that if we ask for forgiveness of a sin and plan to keep breaking it, that sin will NOT be forgiven or any others following it!

you talk about needing to see the context to understand and yet 7th day teaching is that Sun worship is the mark of the beast ...like that is really in the context and you all see how the movement to persecute all non sunday worshipers is rising as the context clearly says any who do not take the mark of the beast will not be able to buy or sell. The 7th day church is border line cult. and grow not by sharing the gospel but by looking for christians already in churches and tying to draw them into their twisted doctrines. Like the church has replaced Israel I look and see a flag out there with a star of david on it and the temple institute has replaced everything to resume temple sacrifices as we look and see a collapse and one world government is on the horizon but just ignore those jews who will resume the sacrifice under anti christ because the mark of the beast is Sunday worship. What context is Zech 12 in when Jerusalem is a troubling stone and many nations have gathered against it and the Lord will destroy those nations. Lets see that this prophecy has not yet occurred as the Lord never defended Jerusalem like this since this was recorded. But do not worry Israel is not really Israel the church is. You want to tell me about context and ignore the rest of the context that annihilates your teachings.

It always amazes me that so much of ones mental time could be occupied by which day of the week Christians are supposed to go to Church. Do SDA's and other saturday sabbath keeepers discuss any other theological issue at all? EVERYTHING is this obsession with saturday Sabbath...I doubt the creator of the cosmos would really care all that much. Unbelievable.

    1 Corinthians 1:10

I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose

Use your time to show love and reach the lost, not try and argue with your brothers and sisters in Christ, which is completely against scripture. You are hurting your witness, and giving non-believers a reason to avoid us. If we argue amongst ourselves, it shows incompetency.

what a novel. My mother and sister (and a lot of my maternal side of the family) are SDA what I don't understand is how you all adjust leap years. Since "god" supposedly created everything in 6 days he didn't experience leap year, nor does the bible (to my knowledge) explain what to about this. It would seem to me that the "true" sabbath would change a little bit every year.

Hmmm, oh well, no point in asking logic be explained by that which has no logical basis

What about the commandment thou shalt not covet another woman's husband or thou shall not practice incest or rape?...

The word god comes from the German word Godan/Gotten which comes from the Norse male myth deity Wotan/Odin.

Matthew 10:34. "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.

"And that servant [slave], which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes." (Luke 12:47) He never denounced servitude, incorporating the master-slave relationship into many of his parables.

By the way the word Lord comes from Europe. A Lord was a land owner. You could not leave the Lord (land owner) without his permission. If you did you would be captured/ punished or killed by the Lord…….Look up the futile system in Europe. Why do you think our relatives left Europe? It is pure ignorance to say Jesus is Lord………

"If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26)

The burning of unbelievers during the Inquisition was based on the words of Jesus: "If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." (John 15:6)

When one of his disciples requested time off for his father's funeral, Jesus rebuked him: "Let the dead bury their dead." (Matthew 8:22)

"Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go." (Judges 19:24-25)

"Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." (I Timothy 2:11-14

Subjection: Bring, make under domination or control, esp. by conquest.

“if that slave says to himself, ‘My master is delayed in coming,’ and if he begins to beat the other slaves, men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour that he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and put him with the unfaithful. That slave who knew what his master wanted, but did not prepare himself or do what was wanted, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know and did what deserved a beating will receive a light beating.” Luke 12:45-48.

Luke19:27, ” But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.”

The most stringent controls on speech in the colonial period were controls that outlawed or otherwise censored speech that was considered blasphemous in a religious sense. A 1646 Massachusetts law, for example, punished persons who denied the immortality of the soul. In 1612, a Virginia governor declared the death penalty for a person that denied the Trinity under Virginia's Laws Divine, Moral and Martial, which also outlawed blasphemy, speaking badly of ministers and royalty, and "disgraceful word.
