Does curse in this verse mean speak ill of, or "unbless" rather than cussing them per se?

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

I think ur on the right track. u wouldnt speak ill of someone u bless or consider blessed. But someone whom u dont consider so...u speak ill of, or curse. The fifth commandment encompasses cursing and speaking ill of someone as killing them. Think about it, in school, I was told not to speak ill of anyone, even for fun. Y? Because, if I and five others kept on telling another kid they were stupid every school day for a year, then the next year, either the kid would avoid us, or b stupid...or both. It takes a very strong person to let insults wash off their backs like water...no matter who says them. I mean, when u pick on someone, ur not cursing them, or cursing at them, BUT, with repetition of ur teasing, it could make a mark on that person's soul which could change them forever...and well...isnt that what the bible indirectly defines as a blessing(if the picking is uplifting), or a curse(if the picking brings one down)?

We live in an era in many countries where we don't have as

much persecution as some other countries, some other eras.

When people persecute you, it's very heavy, and sometimes you

will lose your job, your home, your income from this. Serious results,

    not simple or easy.

It will be normal then to feel bad about all of this. It will be normal to

NOT want the best for those people, to not want to bless them, and

indeed to want to curse them.

If someone curses another, they actually are trying to set up a series

of bad events in that person's life. A curse is a bad spell, and people

do this to each other all the time. They can do this through words,

'what a ***', or they can make others also hate that person.

We can stir up a lot of wrath through these things, and some might think

this wrath is even JUSTIFIED. It's not. One of the reasons it's not is that

    it never works.

What works is to bless the person. To bless them will be to GO against

your natural inclination. 'do not curse' means you will not allow yourself to

send ill will to that person.

This can turn the whole situation around.

  • More relates to "unbless" The Greek/Hebrew translationof the word curse there is to "doom"

Right! , two wrongs never make a right. We are to raise ourselfs above this and enter in to God's peace. "If God is for us?, who can stand against us"? "For 10,000. May fall to your right or left, but you will stand in the end".
