My weed eater is having problems?

Im going to assume its 2 cycle.

Its a fuel issue most likely. Try mixing new fuel, checking fuel lines, and/or cleaning your carb. If its to rich with oil, it will often sputter and not be able to reach full rpms.

Sometimes, the fuel lines and fuel filter will get debris on them and this makes it so the engine can not suck in as much fuel. (Staves the engine of fuel and it cannot reach high speeds)

If your carb is dirty, when open up the throttle, you will starve the engine of fuel and put in to much air. When the ratio is so far off that the air no longer combusts then the engine dies. To clean it, take off the bowl and take out again gunk in there, spray carb cleaner in any ports (small tubes), and check to make sure the seals aren't leaking.

If you aren't good with engines take it to a local shop and they can clean it pretty cheap. ~30 bucks for tune up? If you are really cheap, try just spraying carb cleaner in the carb.
