Did I handle this right?
My 5 year old has a lovely best friend, who has ADHD and possibly Aspergers. This wee boy always wants to hug my son, which he isn't too fond of! He's not allowed to hug in school so the minute school is out, the little lad will try and hug my son.
So I made a suggestion to my 5 year old. He is currently obsessed with secret handshakes (we all have them - his dad, me and both his brothers have individual ones!!). So I said "why don't you make up a secret handshake with him, then next time he wants to hug you, you can say let's do this instead".
Can any parents with kids with ADHD/Aspergers let me know if I did the right thing? I don't want to tell the boy off for hugging, he's only doing it because they're best friends! And he's only 5!! So nasty comments about any of it please, i'll just delete them!

I do not have experience in this area, but as a mother it seems to me u did the right thing. From a little boys perspective it could even be cool that they have a secret handshake.

I'm not sure if you mean your son has Asperger's or his friend does...but usually Asperger's people don't like being touched at all. If they find someone they're comfortable enough with to touch, it's a miracle. And I would encourage any friend of someone with Asperger's to allow the person to give them a hug every now and then. It means more to the person with Asperger's than most people could imagine.
So as it stands, I wouldn't believe the kid who wants to hug has Asperger's Syndrome. So I'd say you did a great job handling it. A kid with ADHD should find the secret handshake idea fascinating and might want multiple ones! :)
