should i put a picture of my same sex partner on my desk at work?
i work with mostly women and a few guys. all of them are either married or have boyfriends and girlfriends and many of them have pictures of their partners on their desks. my company has a non discriminatory policy against gays and even lets them include our unmarried partners on our health insurance since we can't get married. (constitutionally we can but there are laws that violate the constitution and say we can't)
anyway, most of them know i'm gay. i told a few of them and i think they spread it around.
I really want to put his picture on my desk.
what do you think i should do?
Mr Hamilton: i don't need to ask you, i need to go to a court of law to get one. since i'm a citizen i'm entitled to do this as well

Is the picture controversial? Is your partner nude? If it is just a normal picture then I say: Go for it. I really don't care about a picture, just don't ask me for a marriage license.

It's your choice, but just remember that some people may not be okay with it. Not everybody is accepting of homosexuality. You shouldn't be ashamed of putting a picture of your partner on your desk though, just be aware of the attention it may cause.

Nothing is stoping you. Worst case, you may find out someone doesn't know. If your company has a specific non discriminatory policy against gays, I would think you are in the clear. If someone even took issue, they would most likely keep it to themselves in that atmosphere.

Yeah sure, but when people start talking about you behind your back you better not be a douche bag about it either. If you dont want the attention dont put up the picture, if youre perfectly ok with it dont act like your 1st amendment rights are protected and then theirs arent.

Why not? Lots of people who aren't married or who never intend to get married have pictures of their partners on their desks. It just says "I'm taken."

My friend is openly gay at our work place. He has pictures of himself and his partner up from their wedding. He is one of the most liked people there but he has dealt with discrimination at other places and times in his life. I say go for it but be prepared for that one jerk that might make a deal out of it.
