Are there any private membership dog parks in the Houston area?
We have a dog that's aggressive to other dogs and would like to find a place where we can take her for some off-leash exercise without having to worry about encountering strange dogs. Does anyone know of private membership dog parks in the Houston area?
I should have been clearer and provided more details in my question. We actually have a membership to a private dog park. As members, we can reserve a specific time up to 2 hours and can take our dogs there and have the park to ourselves. We're happy with it, but was just trying to find another dog park that operates like this for variety. I have no interest in having my dogs around other dogs that I don't know anything about and whose owners might be clueless about dog behavior.

Private membership dog parks are likely to not permit you at their park if you have a dog-aggressive dog.
The essential point in these parks is for people to feel more secure about the types of people/dogs that go there. They want the smaller crowd and sociable dogs.

And you think a private membership dog park(never heard of that before) is going to allow you to bring your dog aggressive dog to the park WHY exactly? Use your head for a second. He's still going to run into strange dogs. Dogs like this that can't/won't be controlled have no business in dog parks of ANY kind period.

I own a private dog park (not in Houston), and standard practice is for any member and their dog to pass an evaluation. I'm doubtful that your dog would pass the test that most would require. Your best bet is to find a qualified trainer/behaviorist to work on the issue at hand. Getting the dog involved in a sport would also be an option for getting exercise.

Try the Houston Dog Park Association. They have a website and you can check out parks in the area. I know of a few kennels that have large fields on the NW side.

It's the owner that needs to learn how to train the dog, so sending it away to be trained means it will work for the trainer, but when it gets home the owner will probably do everything wrong and the dog will not respond correctly. Learn how to train your dog obedience https://tr.im/OlhCJ
Part of the fun in having a well trained dog is learning to train it correctly yourself. That is also the most rewarding. Some people send dogs away for specialist training, like sheep herding, protection work or gundog training, but even then, that is the lazy way out and good trainers do their own training to get what they want from their own dogs.
However it is always more productive to train your dog under a good instructor, especially if you are not experienced

My dogs knows my sons name. I ask her to find Oskar and she runs to him. It's probably because he's only a toddler and I'm constantly saying his name, and were at home most of the day so she's hearing me call his name a lot :)
