I have found that my milk is good 10 days after the sell by date.

Your nose is much more accurate in telling you if milk is bad than any date printed on the container.
Americans waste so much food because the "magical" date printed on the side has passed. That date is there for liability purposes and so that retailers have a guideline for removing old items from their shelves long before they go bad. That date is based on less than ideal storage conditions.
Taste and smell are super good ways to find out if food is bad. The only exception I'd say is something that already has a very strong smell and taste that could mask the rotten smell, but that's saying a lot because we have evolved a very good sense for detecting food that will make us sick.

till it spoils.
There is no exact time.
If your milk was kept in a very cold fridge, no one drank out of the carton and it never sat at the breakfast table for an hour or so, it could easily be good for longer than a week after the date.
OR
If the kids keep drinking out of the carton and leaving it sit out on the table, it could spoil BEFORE the date.
Spoiled milk stinks sour and tastes sour. As long as your milk neither smells bad or tastes bad it is fine.
Forget the date, its worthless anyway.
People took care of milk long before there ever was such a thing as use by dates or sell by dates.

It all depends on the temp of your refrigerator. The colder the better. As for the rest, just give it a sniff or a taste test. Spoiled milk will not hurt you. What do you think that cottage cheese is?
