What American things are not found in Germany?
I am going to Germany in two weeks and I need good gift ideas for my host family. I was thinking of bringing things that are not found in Germany, like brownie mixes. What else I not found in Germany? Thanks.

American items which cannot be found in germany are possibly not found there because Germans don't like them. In Germany it is use to get some information about the one who will receive a present and make it a little "personalized". That does not need in any way to be expensive. Those presents can be self made pieces of art. Germans like when they see that someone spent a little time thinking about how to make the present "personal". The German expression is: A present should come from the heart.
One idea which would come into my (German) mind is based on the information I already have received: they invited an American girl. They seem to like America (girls anyways). I would try to make a good photo of my own (American) window with everything in front (if that is "Three miles island" in Harrisburg: take another window and don't tell them) and try to develop it 1:1 meaning if they hang it on their wall they have a window looking into the USA; But that is just an idea.

Most everything is available in Germany these days. It's a highly developed country and they have Internet just like we do and can order whatever they want if it isn't readily available. However, it is nice of you to want to take something with you. Take food or souvenirs that represent your home state. When you get there find out what they's like and maybe have your family send over a package.

I would suggest items that have a particular relavance to where you live. Souveniers of your home town, State or something like that. Check with German Customs Service whether you are allowed to bring foodstuffs into the Country, even in "mix" form.
