Does it matter if I pay 'Minimum payment due' or the total balance for credit card?

So I just got my first credit card bill. I can pay the 'Minimum payment due', or the actual balance. Does it matter which I choose, will it affect my credit if I choose to pay it all instead of just the minimum only?

While either one will protect your credit score, it's much better to pay the full amount if you can. The reason is that they will sock you with a lot of interest (check your bill for how much) for any unpaid amount. Plus, it will reduce the amount of credit available to you: you have, say, $1,000 in credit available, and you buy something for $500 and only pay the minimum amount the next month, resulting in your available credit being reduced to about $500.

Only pay less than the full amount when you've decided to pay off a large purchase, such as a new computer, over several months, and are willing to pay the interest to do so.

Pay the full balance each month.

Pay on time, and pay twice a month if you can.

If you choose to pay just the minimum then you get charged interest. Keep in mind FICO scoring accounts for people who carry a balance on their credit card.

READ the bill you got in the mail.

    ALL of it.

it tells you how long it will take to pay off the entire bill if you pay only the minimum each month, and how much total you will pay, including interest.

Always pay revolving (credit card) debt ASAP you gain no points for paying over time in fact you can loose rating because it looks like you are poor.
