What is that dust-like substance on blueberries?

So I've eaten blueberries and I noticed that they all have like, a white dust-like coating over them. What is it? It's not mold because they look like this even when they are growing on the bush. Look up blueberry on Wikipedia, even the berries on the picture look like this. What is it? Is it fertilizer?

The white coating is called "bloom". It's completely natural and is part of the blueberry's "defense" against the sun.

    fertilizer ? heavens no!

I believe it is a symbiotic mold - very similar to that on grapes

it also aids in making blueberry wine

    Edit

if you look close it is a waxy substance to help keep bugs off

    ? ? sun screen - Yea OK
