Can I use this business name?

I want to start a dog treat business and I googled to see if the name that I want exists. It does but as a dog groomer business. Can I still use it?

check your state business entity search and uspto.gov for trademarks. Just cause it's on google doesn't mean you can't use it.

If the groomer's business is in your state, no. It would be confusing for both their and your customers and would be viewed as unfair competition by the other business.

If the business is NOT in your state, then it's ok, provided that they are not a national chain. Chain stores like Walgreens, Exxon, Coca Cola, etc. have a lock on the names of their company.

All in all, it's far easier to just come up with a different name for your business.

I'm trying to create my own boutique and a lot of names I come up with and I fall in love with, I google and realize they are taken. Depending on the name, you can probably change it up a little bit but putting your name or something in it. Try to spark it up and get creative. You can use creative, fun words to describe it better and add more detail. However, there are a lot of people out there that do use the same names as others. I find it better to make it YOU by adding another word or taking one away. If you do use the same name, remember that if you tell people your business name, they may look it up and get it confused with the other business... Best of luck!!! :-)
