Do you handle your venomous snakes?
This is a question for people or keep hots or who have been around others that keep them.
Do you handle your snakes? And not in reference to regular husbandry, like cleaning, moving from one place to another,,,I mean just handling them.
If you do, what precautions do you take?
Thanks for your answer lizard king...just to clarify, I'm not interested in keeping hots, I'm merely curious as to the answers I'll get to this question. I wouldn't be using yahoo questions as a tool to learn something like this.

Well I don't own any hots, but my friends usually call on me if they've got snakes in their yards that they want moved, and a couple times I've had to remove copperheads from my friends yard. I just used a small snake hooks and wore some plated gloves. I always wore long sleeves, but I think their fangs would bite through some loose clothing. And people who do own hots tell me that the main thing they always use is snake hooks. I've also heard from people who own copperheads saying that they're pretty docile if they're captive bred.
To me the most important precautions to take would be depending on how lethal the snake is. I'd take more precautions with a cobra than I ever would with a copperhead. Another important precaution would be to always have some antivenom.
This is all coming from a guy who has just been around hots, not owned any, so take that what it's worth haha.

I'm a Texas herp member n alot of us keep hots for the club that n we go catch rattle snakes all the time. But no u shldnt handle a hot snake, we have tongs n hooks tht we use to move them around with n even then depending on the snake we have special gloves. One member has a gaboon n I have been over while he cleans it's tank n even tho it's as docile as a puppy I wldnt ever hold it. But I don't even hold my non venemous snakes. Snakes shldnt b pets, they rnt dogs they dnt fetch n don't like human companionship n they for sure dnt like bng held. They r more of a look at animal. Mine only get touched when we weigh, breed or clean them.

I don't even handle my non-venomous snakes. They are not cats and dogs, they aren't meant for love and affection to be cuddled with. Merely for display or scientific purposes only. The only time i do handle is when either milking or moving. What you need to learn about handling hots cannot be learned over yahoo answer. Do what i did and try to find a local LICENSED keeper to help you train with hots, before actually acquiring one.
Good luck!

no the only time they are taken out is when they are getting the cage cleaned, it would be stupid to take them out to handle them for no reason, why risk a bite for no reason? if you are just keeping snakes as a hobby there is no reason to milk them.
