I'm 14. I may be young, but I'm experienced in reptiles, particularly ball pythons. Don't let my age deceive you. Am I a nice kid? Yeah. Just don't get on my bad side, and you'll be good. But if you're wrong, I'm going to call you out. Check out my blog dedicated to reptiles! http://thereptileworld.wordpress.com/

  • Ball Python Problem........?

Hey everyone, its been a while since I've been around here for those who remember me. Anyways, I'll get to the point, my male ball is mid shed cycle is not flicking his tongue like normal. He is flicking it but it only comes out about half way and sometimes gets stuck. I know these to be symptoms of IBD but there were no mites present and he is not currently showimg other symptoms. My two thoughts are possibly mouth rot or its simply a side effect to his shedding. In the past he has had mouth rot and RO but both were treated by a professional, however if this be mouth rot again are there any home remedies? Please give your knowledge as to what this might be thank you. Please excuse typos as this is from a mobile device.

  • What's your favorite drink?

What is your favorite drink? I mean anything, including alcohol, pop, juice, anything.

For me, nothing tastes better than cold, bottled, natural spring water. I also love cream soda if I had to drink soda. Being 15 I don't drink alcohol, but from the few sips and small portions I've had, my favourite is Hennessy Cognac. And I guess my favourite beer would have to be Corona.

So what are you favourite drinks?

  • Baby ball python wrinkled and dried? Help please!?

I have a baby pastel ball python who I got about 2 months ago. He's only eaten once about a month ago now, but other wise he's refused. Recently, I saw he was going into the shedding phase, this being the first time he has in my care. His eyes returned to normal about 2 or 3 days ago, yet not shed. Now he's extremely wrinkled and dry to the touch, but no shed skin yet. I've been misting his cage often, just to be sure his shed will go okay. By extremely wrinkled, I really mean EXTREMELY WRINKLED. All down his body and even on his head, it's pretty bad looking and I've gotten very worried. But I'm sure he's not dehydrated, I've filled his water dish daily and I have seen him drink before.

Should I be worried? This is the first baby ball python I've had, the rest I purchased as adults, so I don't know if this is normal or not. Will he shed soon?

The only thing I thought that may have caused this, he had mites when I first got him, and I've still been treating him. I'm worried that it may be a reaction to the spray I was using on him. I followed the directions, it said to spray directly on the snake. I did the last treatment about a day before I saw his eyes glaze over. Could this be the problem? I'm really worried. Any advice on what I should do? Please help.

  • Ball python won't eat f/t fuzzy?

He's just a baby and this would be his first meal in my care. I'm trying a f/t fuzzy, my first time trying f/t, but he's just not interested in it. Normally, it wouldn't be a problem, and I'd try again at a later time, but there is no later time right now. I have to leave for a month long vacation tomorrow. I don't want to leave him without a meal for an entire month (I'm fine with that for my adults and my spotted, but I'm more worried about it being a baby). I tried force feeding once, but I couldn't get him to swallow it so he spit it out. Any tips or suggestions?

  • RI Not getting better. But not getting worse?

So a while ago now, my BP had a mouth rot, and a RI. I took him to the vet, and 200 dollars later, he doesn't have a mouth rot anymore. The vet also gave some antibiotics, which I don't think have worked.

He still is occasionally wheezing, yet only when I handle him. Other than that I hear nothing. There is no bubbles, no mucus, he's not even trying to elevate his head. Could this still be a RI? His temps and humidity are correct. 80 ambient, 90 hot spot, 40-50% humidity. It's just frustrating, and I really don't have the cash to go to that vet again. I have tried a home remedy, it was giving him a steam bath with a mixture of eucalyptus oil and vicks vaporub. Anyone have any suggestions, or thoughts on this?

  • Ball python early scale rot possibly?

Okay, so I bought a baby pastel BP on Wednesday. Yesterday I realized he had mites, so I'm treating him today. Now I've also noticed a small cut looking thing on the last third of his belly. It's maybe half an inch in length. The snake itself I presume is no older than a month. Could this be the start of a scale rot?

  • Dandelion greens for bearded dragon?

I haven't given my beardie greens for a few days, and I couldn't get out, but there are some dandelions out in my yard. Would it be okay for me to give him these? Rinsed and cleaned well of course. Only issue is, parts of my yard were sprayed with weed killer, so if I rinse them well, would they be okay? I'm not even sure if they came in contact with the spray. And it was about a month ago. Thanks.

  • Can I work at a pet store?

I love animals, and I'm very experienced with many reptiles. I own 4 snakes and one bearded dragon, and have researched so many other reptiles. I don't like to consider myself an expert, since I still have a lot to learn, but I'd say I'm close to it (don't want to sound arrogant or anything).

Problem is, I'm only 14 right now. I'm going to be 15 in February. Are they allow to hire me? I don't know, because of laws. If I can't get a job there, would I be allowed to do like an unpaid internship? I feel I have a lot of knowledge to share with people who come to buy reptiles there and I'd be a good information source there. I really just want a way to help reptiles, to make sure people get the right info for their reptiles. Thanks in advance.

  • Making a suggestion for Y! Answers?

Is there anywhere I could send a suggestion to the editors or someone of yahoo answers?

I'd like to suggest that they add a box in the answers for when you edit you answer to a question. I'd like this space that you can put a reason for the edit, like you could type "Typo" or "Adding on" and such. I feel like when you edit an answer you lose credibility, because people don't know what you edited for, and others may think that you're taking parts from their answer. Anywhere I could send that to an upper board place? Thanks.

  • Bearded dragon larger tank?

My beardie is currently in a 20 gallon long. When I first got him I had him in a 10 gallon, but after about 2 weeks I decided it should have been larger so that's when I got my hands on the 20. So yesterday I filled the 10 gallon with my new adition, a pastel ball python. My plans eventually are to upgrade my bearded dragons tank to a 55, and use the 20 my dragons in for my ball python as an adult.

My question is, at what point should I upgrade from the 20 to the 55? The beardie is only 2 months old right now, and the BP is only a couple weeks old so I've got time there. My beardie is maybe 5 inches right now, so when should I upgrade from the 20 to the 55? I don't really want to spend more money on another 20 when I'll have that one free once I upgrade the bearded dragon. So at what length should I get my beardie a 55? And how long would you presume it would take for him to attain that length. He doesn't appear to have grown much in the month I've had him. Thank you.

  • Would this be a good idea?

So this guy in my town just put an ad on craigslist for a spider ball python for sale. In mid-late August or early September, I planned on breeding my two BPs. Unfortunately my male got a RI and I'm still hesitant on putting him through breeding. The guy wants 300 for the Spider, which I don't have the money for, nor would my parents even let another snake in the house, so buying isn't my option.

I was planning on asking him if he'd like to breed his spider and my adult normal female. My female is 1800 grams and is a proven breeder from her previous owner, so I'm guessing she'd provide a good clutch. I'd be supplying everything, incubator, breeding tank, and so on. Should I see if he'd be interested in breeding them and then splitting the profit of the babies? I don't know if it'd be a good idea to ask someone that, especially this being my first breeding attempt, so do think I should ask this? Thanks.

  • Rainbow Boa. Website to buy from? Peruvian/Brazilian? Etc.?

Thinking about adding another snake to my collection, and it is without a doubt going to be a rainbow boa. I'm going to get a baby so I have a 10 gallon I'm going to put her in until she's older. Then I was planning on getting a 55 but adding vines and such so she can climb up higher in the cage to stretch out. I read that's what you should do in a care sheet, so would that be ok? I was also going to use a glass top instead of screen top to help hold humidity, and I was going to get a repti fogger or something similar to maintain humidity.

I'm torn though. I love the Peruvian Rainbow boa. But they're more expensive and harder to come by. So should I just settle for a Brazilian? Definitely not getting a Columbian. Ugly in my opinion.

Next, what website should I buy from? Does anyone know of a website that has Peruvians for sale? Undergroundreptiles.com has Brazilian babies for sale sometimes for 100, which is pretty good, but they chose the baby for you, so I might order one from a classifieds on kingsnake so I know which one I'm getting. Even if it's a little more. But any other website suggestions are appreciated. And any sites selling Peruvians please!

So anyone who owns Brazilians or Peruvians, how are they as pets? I know as juvies they can be real nippy, but with handling I could work that out of them. They're just such beautiful animals.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Using D3 powder on crickets with bearded dragon?

I've switched from meal worms to crickets because my bearded dragon wouldn't eat the mealworms. I was wondering how many times a week I should use the D3 powder. I heard that I shouldn't use it everyday, so maybe 3 times a week?

To put it on the crickets I put about 6 crickets in the bag and shook them in there and the crickets were all white. Is that okay to do that?

    Thanks.

  • Reptiglo light for bearded dragon?

I just got a new bearded dragon about a week ago now. I've just put him in a 20 gallon tank and have fed him crickets for the first time today (I tried mealworms first, but he loves the crickets) and I used vitamin D3 powder and gutloaded the crickets for 24 hours before first feeding him. I'm using collard greens and turnips green mixed.

Anyways, I've just got him a UVB light since all I had before was a basking light. I got the reptiglo 13watt 10.0 compact light, but now I'm worried as I've heard it's not good. Can anyone tell me why it isn't good?

Also, my bearded dragon has two bumps on his back. One is near his front leg and the other near his back leg. I thought at first it was MBD, but he's not showing any other symptoms. He's completely active, no paralysis, always alert, and eating readily. I was told that he was probably bitten by a bigger beardie when he was at the pet store. Could this be true?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Maybe getting back into fish? Please help?

I tried fish before, about 2 years ago, but I was absolutely terrible at it. All my fish died. I tried again and again, and I must have spent 300 dollars in the fish before eventually just giving up.

I think now I can handle it though. So I just have a few questions I would like answered before jumping back in.

    1. I have a 10 gallon tank that I'd be using. As far as the fish I want, I'm kind of open to suggestions. I always liked guppies. I always thought they looked nice. One fish I want for sure though is a pleco. But I'm going to get to that later.

    2. How do I keep my tank clear? That was one of my biggest problems before! I could not keep the tank clear, it was always cloudy. You could still probably find one of my questions from 2 years ago asking for help on that.

    3. How many fish should I keep in the tank. I was think 5 or 6 fish, but is that too many?

    4. So the pleco. I don't want a common pleco. I know which one I want, but I'd like some info on it. I owned one called a brown zebra pleco. It looked just like a zebra pleco except it was just darker in colour. I loved it, it was my favourite fish, unfortunately he died. I looked on google images and couldn't find the one that looked like it. So does anyone have any more info on this fish?

    5. The biggest. What can I do to keep my fish alive! I swear I went through 50 fish before I gave up. It REALLY frustrated me. So please, any advice with that. Thanks.

So any help and advice would be much appreciated, so thank you!

  • Considering a Leo Gecko?

Hey everyone. So I'm considering getting a Leo Gecko soon, and just wanted a couple hints and tips before I go out and buy him.

So I'm going to be keeping him in a 10 gallon terrarium I have spare. I was wondering what substrate I should use? I want it to look naturalistic, but many care sheets say don't use sand, so what should I use? Do I need a heat lamp? I'm use to my pythons not needing, but do leos need it?

Next, it's abut the food. What do I need to do to "gut load" the crickets or meal worms? Never understood this meaning. And isn't there a powder I use to supply D3 vitamin? And can you go over on D3? I thought I read that some where.

Lastly, this isn't about the care but about a colour morph of Leos. I love the Blizzard morph, but I can't find a good place to buy it online that has cheap enough shipping. Or does anyone know of a place to buy a blizzard leo near or in St. Louis? Or do you know of any upcoming reptile shows in the area? Or if there is a good website that supplies blizzards with good shipping rates, could you tell me about that one? I'd like a baby though. Oh and what's the difference between a Blizzard and a Blazing Blizzard?

    Thanks in advance everyone!

  • Black Rat Snake Temperament?

I'm just wondering what the temperament of a Black Rat Snake is. I've never been one for Colubrids but I found a site offering a leucistic Black Rat Snake and I thought it was amazing. I've always loved lucies, but lucy BPs are a bit out of my price range. But these snakes are pretty cheap, and really nice looking. I know Texas Rat Snakes typically have a bad temperament, but how about Black Rat Snakes? Thanks everyone.

  • Help with identification.?

So some people may know about my Spotted Python I occasionally talk about on here. I adopted her from a Petco here in town. She was given to them because the owner could not handle her. The second I saw her I fell in love with her. She was such a curious little snake. Well today she's real aggressive, but I still love her to death. But I'm beginning to question if she really is a Spotted Python. I looked up Spotted Pythons on google images and found a snake that didn't resemble her at all. I then looked up Childrens pythons and she seems to resemble it more. So if anyone could identify her for me, thank you!

Here she is, Spot my "Spotted Python" http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt219/Mowloft/2...

Showing off her aggression as she takes down that towel!
