My puppy has a balding patch on his ear...what is it?

My puppy is about 12 weeks old (give or take) and is a Pit-mix. He seems to be in good health and the vet had no comments when we took him for his first check-up and had him wormed. However, he has recently began balding on one ear.

He has not been scratching himself excessively.

What could this be from and how should I go about treating?

We have a vet appointment next week (Thursday) to get him his vaccinations could this wait until then or do we need to go to a vet as soon as we can? His appetite is good, he seems to be in no pain or discomfort. Aside from the balding patch on his ear he has nothing to indicate something might be wrong.

Update:

I've taken a picture of the area:

could be.. ring worm, mange, fleas, or ear mites, or a skin mite.. all things treated by a vet

if its ring worm is contagious to even humans. The other stuff can be given to your other pets.. if you want to wait it should be okay. just make sure its soon.
