Try giving him dried prunes or plums, they're also in baby food if he isnt too fond of how the dried ones look. Just make sure he is having a high fiber diet maybe this will help as well. I found a link listed below for a list of fiber foods and some other information along with it. Hopefully it will help!

It most likely has to do with MILK! His body may not be able to digetst it correctly and it is causing problems. Has the doctor mentioned a sensitivity or allergy to milk? Have you taken him to a pediatric gastro specialist?(if not..you should)
My daughter and my niece both has constipation issues...as infants..and still do! Myself and my SIL both felt they "need" milk/dairy/calcium for them to grow properly and have strong bones. So I limited my daughtes calcium intake to the minimum. At 1-3 it is 500mg a day. 8oz of milk had 300mg. All dairy!!!! milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, cottage cheese.(if my dd ate a yogurt..she only got one cup of milk that day) That and no bananas, rice, or apple juice!!(the specialist said appples can be constipating).. make sre she gets enough(not to much fiber...to much fiber has the opposite effect) your dd needs 6-7grams of fiber a day.
My dd still had some issues with constipation. she never really goes "normally" The specialist said to give myralax daily..(that worked like a charm) but i read stuff I didn't like about myralax after about a year of her on it. So now I give her Milk of magnesia..when she has a problem. She is now 6 and better...but still has issues, but they are managable and she is never in pain or uncomfortable.
Taking my dd off milk products completley...could solve the problem, but IMO..kids need milk. It has alot of what they need in a small serving. Fat(for proper brain development..whole milk from 1-2) protein, and calcium(for proper bone development.)
Caesen..is the protein in milk..that is what alot of kids are allergic to, or have a sensitivity to which causes constipation.
for some reason when a child is constiapted for a long time...pediatricians don't look at what is causing it..they just say..do this, don't do that. You should find out why this is happening! After the week(which is rediculous!!) they will probably give him an enema, which will work. But it isn't fixing the problem..AND if he has a blockage...which after a week he will..it may not get it all out.
It has been 3 days and he NEEDS to go. Have you tried babyfood prunes? mix it with pears or in oatmeal. Or try milk of magnesia.
Take him to a pediatric gastro specialist. There is a reason why this has been hapening for...basically his whole life. and What is the one thing he has had for his whole life? MILK!(with allergies, it can take time for the body to realize and reject a food/drink. in the first 4 months..how often did he go? 1 time a day? I have 2 kids..my first pooped..alot!! 4-8 times a day. My daugther..once a day, which made me nervous..then it started every other day..then every second day. I was told by the ped. to keep track..if it is consistant for a week..that is her normal. OK but..her "normal" was ok for a week or two then..went to every other day. so..it isn't normal.

I know a six month old with that prob the dr said to give her extra juice and keep giving her banana baby food. Keep giving him potassium and maybe even prunes. It should help or mix some prune juice with something he likes.

by 15 months he should be on finger foods and baby food, try and feed him lots of pureed fruit and vegetables that are high in fiber and potassium!! Also make sure he is drinking lots of fluids!!

Take him to the doctor again and maybe they can get him some heavy duty laxatives if that's what he needs
