Looking for the impossible... a low cost and high quality saddle?

Oliver has his own saddle and pad. There's just one small problem with them, for me. It's a barrel saddle. I don't have anything against western (that's all I did for a long time), but I've been riding english a lot more lately.

I've been using one of the lesson saddles, but it doesn't fit him right. He has dry spots on his back when I'm done riding. (Although I'm not sure if that's just from me not working him enough to get a whole sweat going...) Either way, I'm looking to get a saddle of my own for him (and possibly another horse).

Does anybody have a recommendation on a good saddle? I was leaning towards a wintec AP saddle, but I'm not sure. I'm possibly going to a show or two (just little local things), so should I look for something more "traditional"?

Update:

I'm not terribly concerned about looks. I'm more worried about fit. Has anyone used a saddle with the interchangeable gullet system? Since I'm not sure I'm going to be working with Oliver forever, I'd like to be able to use this saddle on another horse rather than going through the hassle of finding another when/if I move on. I've never gotten much feedback about the systems, so I'm not sure if it's something I would want.

Your best bet would be to look on Craigslist, E bay, and tack shops for used saddles. Wintec saddles are really good, but they are pretty expensive. I would recommend the synthetic saddles that require very little care.

We recommend buying a used German, French, English or Irish saddle, in one of the top brands or a custom-made saddle. Those saddles often hold their value for decades with only minor repairs, if people take proper care of them. Our favourite is the Stuebben Siegfried, of which we own two. They are 40 or 50 years old or perhaps more, and in fine shape. They have been restuffed and the billets have been replaced.

If you can find that kind of saddle then you can plan on using it forever, and passing it on to your grandchildren. Even at the price for a new saddle the top-quality ones arr really cheap, if you look at spreading the cost over half a century or more. A $2000 saddle, used at $500, is $10 a year if you keep it for 50 years. If you buy the same saddle new, then it's $40 a year. A $400 saddle that is worn out in four years is $100 a year and then has to be replaced.

I would go for a nice leather saddle used. I'm not a fan of wintecs, I think they're cheaply made. However, I'd take wintec over one of those leather saddle packages in a heartbeat! Those things are no good!

stay away from wintecs, they look good in the store, but they're synthetic and hold all scratches/scuffs that touch them, and there's no getting rid or it. try hitting up Craigslist and local tack shops for used saddles, (another good place to look is on the 5th of every month, that's the typical eviction date for most apartments and they tend to dump all the tenants crap at a thrift/goodwill type store) and yes I know a few people who have gotten saddles this way. keep an eye out for stubben, and collegiate brands, they're my faves.

Your suited threat is a diamond wholesaler, ie somebody who imports diamonds. Diamonds over 2 cts are costly, in case you choose maximum appropriate coloration (F or G) and maximum appropriate clarity VVS, then you definately're conversing hundreds ie fairly over $20k. Drop the colour all the way down to I or J and clarity all the way down to S1 and you're around $8K. stable fee could be recent in property rings the place the diamond is previous cut back as damaging to everyday outstanding. human beings observe flaws ie carbon spots in the previous a decrease coloration. except you place a F coloration alongside a I coloration you may never comprehend. the different extensive fee is going to be the making of the hoop. A precast ring for a solitaire is around $500 or so, a homestead made ring in a complicated layout (a turtle) is going to cost you hundreds. The hourly fee for a jeweller isn't $5! there's no "undesirable success" linked with "used" diamonds, all diamonds are thousands and thousands of years previous and you may never ever have the skill to tell if a stone to procure had ever been set in the previous! you're able to do quite some analyzing up on diamonds and save around. i does not propose procuring a extensive diamond online yet you need to %. up a hoop with small diamonds for something of the hoop from eBay. So except you budget is around $20k you will locate it complicated to get a stable 2ct diamond and the hand-crafted turtle formed diamond ser rings you choose. Congrats on your coming near near engagement and that i believe your gf will love any ring you get her.

You can try looking at an HDR (Henri De Rivel (sp?)) saddle. They are nice for their price.

Also, there is one Wintec saddle that I like, and this is the only one that is worth trying. It at least looks like real leather. My friend owns one, and she loves it.
