Do I have any potential?

So yesterday I ran a PR mile of 5:35, and I was wondering if I have a possible future in long-distance running. I ran 6 miles in training in about 41 minutes and I'm still improving, could I get to a 17-18 minute 5k by fall? What would that take in training terms, like milage per week? What would other high school freshman be running?

I'm not sure what freshman XC runners are doing these days, but freshman in track and field will be ducking under 5 minutes in the mile/1600m.

There is no way to tell if you will be good. It is entirely determined by your dedication and work ethic. You are 15, so you have lots of time, and many miles ahead of you.

Yeah you seem to have heaps of potential. Everyone does, if they put their mind to it! I'm 16 and a girl and my times are like this:

    800m: 2.35mins

    1500m: 5.07mins

    Mile: 5.43mins

    3km: 11mins (track)

    4km: 15.13mins (cross country)

    5km: 20.41mins (road race)

    8km: 32mins flat :) (road)

I run between 40-60kms per week. I do two rep sessions, 3-4 long runs, a Monafartlek session and 3-5 core sessions a week! :) hope this helps! And good luck with your running! :)
