How fast will the average freshman be over a 5k? If i ran an 18 minute 5k and 5:30 mile, would i be one of the fastest?

For a boy, especially a freshmen, that's basically good. Not great or excellent , but good. I mean you definitely wouldn't be one of the fastest . Like the one said above me you'll be in the packed but not in the lead.

Then again that's only the pace you would be using for practice, For a real meet you're pace would be a little faster than that so your time would be at least 16-17:30 min. mark. How about aiming for lower times at practice then during a meet you'll have a spectacular time and maybe even be in the lead.

    Hope this helped :)

I disagree, I think 18:00, especially for a freshman is really good. You will be very competitive, but you certainly wouldn't be the best. However, 18 is really good, and you have plenty of time to improve that time. 18:00 is good enough to maybe even score points for your team.

A 5:30 mile is not a competitive time in track. However, if you can do that during cross country, thats great.

    Good luck.

That is a decent time, and you will be in the pack, not in the lead or last.
