what do you think about enlightenment?

This question is mostly for people who don't think about enlightenment much, although mediators and spiritual gurus are welcome. I'm sure you have heard about buddha or other people who have claimed to have reached a higher form of consciousness. I guess the real question is if you do believe in it, what have you done about it? and if you don't believe in it what has dis-proven it in your eyes? and have you attempted to pursue it at all?

The kind of enlightenment you're talking about calls for ego-less consciousness, and that's a lot to ask of some people, including me. Maybe I could have a moment or two of that kind of consciousness, but to be honest about things I'm no Buddha. I'm not all about ego or totally self centered or one of those people who thinks they are better than everyone else or one who needs constant validation and reinforcement of my beliefs, but in today's society there isn't enough time in the day to reach true enlightenment and still survive the rat race. It's not a good thing society is like this, but it is what it is.

One of my closest friends is a Buddhist and she is an absolute delight. I don't know if she has ever attained true enlightenment, but she is so full of life and such a happy and fun person I have to think whatever she gets out of being a Buddhist is pretty good. I would visit the temple she goes to but they don't speak any English there (she is Asian) and I kind of think I wouldn't understand much of what was going on. I still might go if I can fit it in my schedule. Maybe it would do me some good. It sure seems to work for her, and she's been a Buddhist her whole life.

Thanks for a very good question!

Theravadic scripture quotes Buddha as being anchored in Atman, even while teaching "not this materialism, not this mortal mindedness."

That anchoring is equivalent to saying "I Am the One" (without a second), and is equivalent to Plotinus' "One Mind Soul" realization.

If one's senses are not spiritualized to the point of Oneness, one is at best on Jacob's Ladder of degrees of divine ascent.

My enlightenment is God, Jesus, and my spirit guide~ These are real and work by my side when I connect.
