Astrologers, If you had to learn astrology over again what would be your approach?

Most astrologers are self-taught. Myself included. I started by reading the only astrology book you will ever need. I got a good foundation from it but I don't think that it was anywhere near what I do now, now that I have some idea on what works and what doesn't.

If I were to learn over I would have taken a different approach to save time.

Update:

@Baron. Can't you read? You don't meet the first requirement to even answer this question.

Update 2:

Well it seems that every astrologer goes through a period of doubt about if this stuff works or not. If the books we are reading are right or wrong. One of the things that helped me focus was to finally say that there is a right way and an wrong way of practicing astrology. To put your foot down and have an actual opinion. I don't think that the aspects are general. They are specific. So after getting into Magi Astrology it did help me put my foot down and say, " I will no longer assume that what I read is true. I will test everything that I read. I will not assume that the myths associated with the planets have anything to do with the actual meaning of the planets."

What amazes me about astrology is how people tell me a story of what is unfolding in their lives and how you can see it at work in the charts for that time. I have written a lot on astrology for answers but I truly believe that it's not even the best things that I have seen.

@White Raven I love your sto

Update 3:

@White Raven I love your story. And I'm so glad that you made a decision to master your skills as an astrologer.

@ Those who are discouraged. Don't be. It's not a waste of time. Keep at it and learn to the point where it is as clear as day. I LOVE ASTROLOGY WITH A PASSION! I used to be shy about talking about it in front of people in real life because my belief wasn't a conviction. I'm not shy about it any more. Astrology really works and science may have their opinions about it but it doesn't change the fact that it works.

Now if I were to start over again I would do it this way.

1. Learn all about the planets.

2. Learn about aspects.

3.Learn about synastry charts.

4. Learn about transits.

5. Learn about progressions.

Practice like crazy.

I started learning by living next door to a professional astrologer, astronomer, and mathematician. He did my chart, and then taught me the basics in terms of planets, signs, houses, and aspects. Learning from someone firsthand who not only was a respectable astrologer, but who had a brilliant grasp of astronomy, mathematics, and physics, is something I would not change. He taught me how there are both positive and negative sides to everything, and how to not see astrological relationships in terms of blanket value judgments but trade offs between tests and gifts. He also taught me how to deal with Pluto as a generational planet, a lesson which has served me well. Ultimately I feel that was the best introduction possible to the subject, to be completely blown away by an inspired and brilliant teacher.

I did not set my mind to studying astrology seriously until I was on my own. I did it the self-taught hard way. I began with a serious manual, the title of which now eludes me, and I began by memorizing symbols and meanings of the planets, signs, houses, and aspects. I had to go to the library for planetary information and a Table of Houses for each chart, because it was before computers and internet. It was also before the bodies of Juno, Chiron, etc were being considered. All things being equal I would prefer to have computers to do the painstaking calculations, but I believe there is no way around the initial hard work memorizing the basics and practicing making birth charts.

After that I bought a most helpful, distinctively green-colored hardcover book called "The Astrological Aspects" by C.E.O. Carter. I began to see firsthand how aspects are the key to a birth chart, and how the planets, signs and houses are "tied together". I feel everything I did led up to studying the aspects, and that they are the most vital part of astrology.

I think that doing things the long way, and the hard way, as I did, had many benefits. I would have taken an easier, straighter path if there had been one, but I don't think that was meant to be. It turned out that while I was searching for a Table of Houses to buy, I learned of a formal Mystery School and I became a member. There is something to be said to be able to read the lessons adepts have written, and hard work does pay off. In the long run, for astrology as well as all esoteric studies both spiritual and scientific I believe one should find teacher(s) one believes in and dedicate themselves to mastery.

More people would actually understand astrology if they took the same approach that I did. Most people are so all over the place. I learned what each thing meant then one day it just all clicked together. I can actually read a chart. Most people can't.

I would choose not to have learned it at all if that were possible. It is impossible to truly understand other people. They are mostly irrational. Astrology is interesting but ultimately a waste of time.

Only god will help to make any couple to live together eventhough the kundalies are not matched,,,with the god blessings ,,,couples live together ever. example : my married life.

I consider myself a student of astrology, because I know I don't have all the answers.

I was born into a family of astrologers and even though it was not a focus for my path...I enjoy delving into any of the spiritual studies and find myself always connecting the dots with the meaning of life. I don't know any other way and feel blessed and enlightened that my souls journey included the mysteries of existence and quest for all truth.

Honestly...if I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have learned it at all. I would have simply never opened the book, which was the same one you did.

It's one of those things you simply can't unlearn, and it makes me highly uncomfortable sometimes. Even when I think I'm looking at people, just as people, no preconceived ideas...I sometimes wonder, if I really am.

A lot of people say that astrology is extremely complex. Looks to me is all you need to do is buy a book. Any book. How complex can it be if there are so many self-taught experts? What qualifications do you have to call yourself an astrologer? One book that can be found in the bargin bin? That book is the standard and bible of astrology?

Truth is, you are not learning astrology, you are just repeating things out of the many books. No two books, astrologers, and websites are alike. The lack of consistency and the contradicting make astrology false. It is also bigoted, no one chooses when they are born. You have a false blind belief, not a skill.
