Need help with Net10 Android Optimus Net Prepaid Cell Phone!!!!?

Currently i have the Net10 prepaid cell phone LG800G it is a small touch screen and a pretty good phone. I want an upgrade though because i have had this phone for a year now and am ready to upgrade. So i looked up androids on the net10 plan and i was about to buy the Optimus Net on amazon.com but i recently read comments by people who bought the phone and a comment said that once i buy the phone i will not be able to use my current sim card nor will i keep the same number. this halted my whole process of buying this phone but i don't know if it is true can someone please tell me if that is true an also if possible give me a little more information about the phone??

Because Net10 has phones that store a customer's airtime on the phone and not on the network, Net10 phones have a built in restriction that prevents different phone's sim cards from being used in the phone. This is why sim swapping will not work if you want to upgrade to another Net10 phone. However, you can get another Net10 phone and then call Net10 and they will allow you to upgrade for free. My experience is that you have to buy the phone from the Net10 website and then transfer your number and service from one Net10 phone to another. This is because the new Net10 phone will have its own new sim card which is what you need to transfer your service.

You will not be able to use the SIM card from your current phone, but that's always the case when you switch between phones with Net10. In other words, even if you switched from your current LG 800g to a brand new 800g, they would send you a new SIM with the new phone.

As for the number, you can switch your number. It's required by federal law (FCC), which requires cell phone number "portability."

the big thing to keep in mind here is that the coverage may be different than what you are used to. Your current phone is using either the AT&T or the T-Mobile network, and the Optimus Net uses Sprint's network.

If you want to keep the same coverage, you can try the ZTE Merit for Net10, or their "bring your own phone" program, in which they will send you a SIM card for $15, and you put it into the GSM phone of your choice. In this case, you could buy a used AT&T phone or unlocked GSM phone on Ebay, craigslist, etc.

The final point to consider is that with any smart phone on Net10, you'll be forced to use their "unlimited" monthly plan, which costs $50 ($45 if you enroll in auto-renew and give them a credit card number to charge every month). And the "unlimited" is actually somewhat limited in terms of data - about 100mb a day, or 2GB a month seems to be the actual limit. That's not an issue for checking email, web surfing, or most apps that connect to the web occasionally, but it's a problem if you're streaming a lot of music or video over the internet.
