Are Del-ton AR-15's decent?

I'm looking for my first AR and I was told about Del-ton kits. The thing I liked is that the upper is completely built already and it ships with the lower parts kit, so all I need is a stripped lower. I'm wondering though, what kind of quality are the kits?

I've always lived by 'if it seems too good to be true, it probably is'. Is $470 for an entire rifle save for one piece about right for an entry level kit, or are these cheap POS' that I should stay away from?

There is nothing wrong with a DTI AR15. I would probably prefer a Del Ton to a Rock River because I will be getting almost EXACTLY the same rifle for a LOT less money.

Don't let the internet drive you crazy. Del Ton makes a perfectly serviceable product and you are NOT buying a rifle that is guaranteed to (i) suck in general, (ii) not shoot a group to save its life and (iii) fall apart after 200 rounds. Yes, you can get a Del Ton with a chrome-lined bore and M4 feed ramps cut into the receiver. No, you don't need either - especially if you are a casual civilian shooter.

If you're going to shoot bulk surplus ammunition, bulk steel cased or otherwise inexpensive ammunition, you're not going to win any accuracy competitions anyway - more or less without regard for how much you spent on your barrel. I've seen people shoot sub-moa with Del Ton rifles. They work just fine. I've seen a lot more people shoot super-moa with fancy ARs. I think it's safe to assume that your Del-Ton is going to shoot about as straight as you and, like anything else, it's malfunctions will be inversely proportional to the effort you put into maintenance.

It low price and low quality. It's for people who just want something to play around with. You are NOT going to be winning any matches with this thing.

They are cheaper rifles, but serviceable from what I have seen.
