Should I learn to bat left handed?

I'm 14, white, I play center field, and Im very fast. I usually miss beating out a infield groundball I hit by a step...lots of greats have batted left handed, I'm in the middle of a baseball season right now. I've always been a right handed hitter, but would it be worth it to learn to bat left handed this off season? Is it possible to learn and for my left handed swing to be a good one? Or is it too late to learn this? Please give your opinion and answers. Thanks

If I were you, I would first try to perfect my right-handed swing. Since that is your natural hand, it would be best to perfect the dominant hand first. However, working on batting lefty wouldn't be all that bad of an idea. Just don't work on it more than batting righty until your right handed batting is better. If you are going to practice lefty though, start out with making sure you get the stroke right. Don't get any bad habits right off the bat. Then have someone start pitching to you slowly and then work the speed up. Don't get frustrated, it's difficult to learn something new like this. Take about 100 right handed pitches for every 50 lefties. Hope this helped. Good luck and remember, DONT give up!

This sounds like me. When I was a Sophomore in High School I was the starting center fielder for my varsity team. I was batting right handed and had a batting average in the high .200's my coach recommended I learned to bat left handed after perfecting my left handed swing my batting average went up to the low .400's because i was able to beat out all infield hits. So if you are serious about your game then I would defiantly consider batting switch handed.

I was in a similar problem but i hurt my left wrist so i couldn't swing right handed so i just repeatedly practiced my swing left handed and i ended the season batting 6-10 left handed, and whenever i swung i never missed the ball. I admit, batting left handed was easier than it sounds. just become a switch hitter, and go to the cages and just keep practicing your swing.

Might not hurt to try. By the time your older, you may become one heck of a hitter.

The thing is though, as you get older, the bases get further apart, so unless you are going to get faster and faster as you get older(hard to determine) it probably isn't worth your time, unless you will of course put in multiple hours daily to make yourself better as a lefty, than righty.
