has anyone heard of this guy on the guitar?

yngwie malmsteen

Update:

My roommate was thinking this clown was a musical genius, and to tell you the truth his work as a composer was pretty good. All that stops of course when he picks up a guitar, and starts playing destroying the fine orchestra behind him. I got into Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists last night after we agreed they knew iendustry better than we did, then had to listen to lots of complaints when he didn't appear anywhere on that list. For some reason my roommate thought he was going to be top ten. LOL. He didn't even make the top 100.

He was very slightly popular in about 1987. His main claim to fame was an ability to play very very fast, but his music was not regarded very highly by most critics. Go to youtube and watch "I am a viking".

Yeah but his name is fun to say. Interesting dude, keeps none of his many very expensive Strats in a case, but rather just stacks them on top of each other against the wall. I read a story somewhere about him going in a shop to buy a pretty expensive Strat (Custom Shop or something similar) and asked if he could get a discount if he didn't want the case. But anyway, all that aside he is good enough that you have no business disrespecting him.

he was a speed freak on guitar, with no taste in music.

he knew all the scales back and forth, but all music sounded the same.
