Is there a hippy area in calgary?
I am moving to Calgary and keep hearing about how different it is to other cities. What I am looking for is the hippy/bohemian type area of the city to look for apartments.
Similar to, in Winnipeg; Osborne Village
in Saskatoon; Broadway area
in Vancouver; Commercial drive
I have heard about a party/bar area, but not a real bohemian area.
Any tips?

You may like Inglewood (very boho in my opinion, with a hint of home grown, and a splash of vintage charm) Expensive though. The big bar/party area is what is called the Beltline. Its a few neighbourhoods along 17th Ave. s.w. (the main street with all the bars, etc.) i would suggest looking in these areas as you may find you like the atmosphere. the areas there are Scarborough, lower mount royal, mission (this is a great spot! definitely check it out!) and bankview. Out of all these, i would suggest Mission, or Inglewood. I think they are the most "hippy" we have... I'm born and raised here, and there isn't a lot of hippy/boho in calgary, but these two areas will probably have what you're looking for. Inglewood would be better if you want quieter, Mission is better if you want easy access to partying or nightlife. Both have parks, and everything you need, mission just has more of the nightlife.
and FYI few of the people i know who were born here REALLY love country music. most of us just "somewhat like" some of it here and there. We are proud of our country heritage, but we are not ALL cowboys. (well, we all are for 10 days a year, but you can tell the fakes lol)

17th Ave south is about as 'hippy' as you get in the redneck capital of Canada.
Move to Vancouver, Nelson, or Tofino in BC if you want to be a hippy.

We are more redneck, than anything. Very loving. We don't have "Hippy" area's, but we sure as hell have the Ghetto areas. and i mean Forest Lawn, and Dover area's. They aren't so nice. You'd get shot at night
Hope this helps :)
