Why can't I get a credit card?
I'm a full time college student and I know that there are credit cards for college students, but every time I try to apply for one I get rejected. I don't have any credit, and I'm unsure if that is the reason behind me not being approve, but I thought that student credit cards were suppose to help you build your credit. Also the last time I applied for a credit card it said "Collections" on it, does that mean that I owe something? And if so, how can I find out what it is?
And are there certain credit cards that are more lenient when it comes to approving college students?
I'm 22

If you are in the United States, you have to be 21 now (unless your parents co-sign) - Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure (CARD) Act of 2009
If you were turned down for a credit card - you can get a free credit report. You can also get a free one every year from the second link - Annual Credit Report. This is the only approved site for this. There are others, but they will charge or give you a free 30-day period (then you have to remember to cancel).
The last link - you can get a secured card that will report to the credit bureaus.

I'm pretty sure you may need a cosigner if you're under 21. There are some cards that are more lenient. Usually, I think store-specific reward credit cards cause problems. like Disney Visa, and what not.
My mom just added me to her account so I could start building credit. You are probably not getting approved right now because you don't have any and it's probably looking for some credit. Maybe your best bet is to call the credit card company and ask because I do not know what collections means on the card.
