computer humms loud..what is it?
only does it in certain games..mostly multiplayer games..on different sites..does not do in pogo on multiplayer games.
humming noise sounds like the fan in back is at super high speed, but not fan doing it
hard drive going out? how to fix..did all the scans..pc tuneups.etc
computer is compaq..vista windows..and about 5 yrs old.
have no problems except for lag real bad in one game..plus cd/rom does not work..opens n closes but does not read...so disk games are out for me.

To go along with Andrew, Vista is a resource hog. The sound is your processor working harder to process the strings and in turn, causes your fan to power up. Fans have several different speeds, and the faster they go, the harder it's working.

time for a new computer at 5 years old. yes it does sound like the hard drive. which you could replace. not that difficult to do. depending on what you have on your computer, getting a new one would probably be better. most places will transfer stuff from your old computer if you need them to.
