Router reset question?

I have a router connected to a DSL modem on one side and a 20 port switch on the other side. When I reset the router I have routinely been powering off the switch first and then powering it back up after the router restarts. Is this really necessary or can I let the LAN continue to operated over the switch while the router restarts?

You don't need to restart the switch.

You can simply restart the router only.

    It goes like this:

    Modem > Router > Switch> End device

You will only have access on the switch, meaning devices connected to the switch can only access other devices on the switch and you will not be able to access the internet since you will not have connectivity to a gateway.
