Troy Bilt lawn mower with Kohler engine leaking oil, knocking noise, wont crank.?

I have a 2006 Troy Bilt lawn mower (super bronco) with the Kohler engine. It has been leaking oil for some time and smoking pretty bad. It has been leaking oil really bad lately. I cant tell where it is coming from exactly but is all over the air filter, well pretty much everywhere including the underside of the hood. The other day I think it might have leaked all out while mowing and ran dry. It made a loud noise and died. Now it has a really loud knocking sound when trying to crank and will not start. Any suggestions?

I think I hear taps being played far off in the distance. It sounds like you have damaged a main bearing or connecting rid bearing. However, that’s worse case, you MIGHT just might have loosened a valve seat and it is jamming up the engine. Pop the head and take a peek. Either way, your gonna have to tare it down anyway.

find your self a 1/4 inch bolt about 3 inches long pull the cable off the spark plug insert the threaded end into the cable know point the bolt to the spark plug (still installed in the engine block)and hold the bolt about 1/16th of an inch away from the spark plug and have someone attempt to start the mower watch to see if there is a spark jumping between the bolt and the spark plug,if you have a spark then change the spark plug ,if you don't have a spark the magneto could be corroded and require cleaning by gently rubbing with fine sand paper 'the magneto can be found by tracing the spark plug cable back to its source it will be held in place by 2 bolts and will have circular side to it and will be real close to the fly wheel(about 8" in dia) there are also pick ups on the fly wheel so give it a good rub with sand paper as well . if you now have /or always had spark, check that the gas is making it all the way down to the carburetor removal of a cover is required to make this check, have some one push the primer button and watch in the opening of the carb to see if the gas makes it there if the gas doesn't make it there check your fuel lines for flow by removing the line closest to the crab and turn on your fuel tap if you have no fuel still, pull the line off at the tap try turning it back on if still no fuel there is a filter in the tank that could be plug but that is very rare as the are pretty big if you find that you are getting fuel all the way down to the carb and you have spark then all that would be left would have to be your gas even though you bought new gas .
