Why do people feel a need to attend any holiday, wedding or funeral. Is it not an imposition on others?

Personally, I would feel hurt if anyone attended my or my families' life events. It just seems inconsiderate to take time from the life of others for your "big days." Wedding, funerals. Just don't get the celebration thing. What is it about?

For the most part, people don't just rock up because they see a wedding or funeral announcement in the paper. For weddings, most of the time, a guest is invited. Funerals, because they have some sort of relationship with the deceased and want to pay their respects.

I wouldn't be offended at all if someone I invited to a celebration was able to attend. Why have a celebration if you're celebrating by yourself?
