If someone gave someone else just a bank account number to send money to, can they hack the account?

If someone from the USA wanted to send money to someone in the UK, can they hack their account just knowing the bank account number? Is that the only thing that needs to be known for a transfer, or any other details?

Also, in case you know, what is the best way for the above (a money transfer from account in USA to one in the UK) to happen safely and easily? Does the currency change automatically too? Thanks.

    Theoretically yes.

A wire transfer (NOT Western Union) is quickest and safest.

If you give them your account number, they don't HAVE to hack the account. The information required to electronically DEPOSIT money is EXACTLY the same information required to WITHDRAW money.

If you don't trust the person COMPLETELY, you should NOT allow them ANY access to your bank account. Ask them to send the money to your PayPal account. The transfer it to your bank account yourself.

Sounds like you are falling for a scam.

    Plain and simple.
